Two thumbs up! I always loved the Hurst Olds in silver over black. Not a real hotrod, but who can argue with lightning rods? :)

I attend the show in Lancaster, and though its a small show (only drawing 100-125 cars maybe last year) the park has a great setting. The food is also delicious and priced right. The Classy Chassis car club works hard for this show, I just wish more people would give them a chance and boost there attendance. The other fun part of attending this show is when DDHemi and I give our buddy Chuck Richardson the Fly-By on Hwy 18 every year through Amish country

Thanks for posting about this show. I never knew that there was a show in Lancaster. How do I get a flier or information on this show?

This is a show that I would like to attend and support in 2010! I may be cruising behind Chuck Richardson and Dick Lehnherr this year, so you and DD can do a ‘Fly By’ on three old dudes this year! Seriously, I would like to go back to Lancaster because of my speeding ticket from the Wisconsin State Patrol while driving that red Chevy Bel Air earlier this year. Honestly Officer, I didn’t know the speed limit on Hwy 18 was 55 coming into Lancaster, I thought it was 65!

    Marshall

Marshall, I should be recieving a flyer for this show in the coming weeks. When I get the info, I will get it to you :)

They had a car show last year during ballonfest, but it was held at the Green County Fairgrounds and was not judged. Haven’t heard anything about this year yet…

This topic will get my wheels turning…

Swap Meets. I rarely attend them anymore, for many reasons. Like Ryan, if I’m looking for a used part, I’ll shop online. I can usually find what I need from the comforts of my own home. I haven’t been to Jefferson in probably 3 or 4 years now, and I can’t say that I’m missing anything. I have to agree with X-man, I too have thrown out better [strike]shit[/strike] memoribilia than what I see for sale down there. And yes, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but there are quite a few “sales people” at Jefferson that I wouldn’t buy from based on the appearance of there items for sale, the equipment they use to transport it, and there own personal appearance and hygeine. There are plenty of clean cut crooks out there too! I have scored some really good deals at Jefferson in the past. And you can find plenty of used, reman, and new parts for sale there. But the weather usually sucks during the spring meet, and I can remember one year it was so cold I had my winter coat on with gloves and a stocking cap. The only thing I really enjoyed at Jefferson was cruising the car corral, but in the past few years that has also attracted a lot of junk.

Car Shows. I’m sure that this topic has been covered 100 times over, but its always fun because one’s perspective may change.

I like the smaller shows that are a drive to get to. Not because the competition may be challenging, but because you get to see cars you have never come across before. You also get to meet new people in more of an intimate setting. I attend the show in Lancaster, and though its a small show (only drawing 100-125 cars maybe last year) the park has a great setting. The food is also delicious and priced right. The Classy Chassis car club works hard for this show, I just wish more people would give them a chance and boost there attendance. The other fun part of attending this show is when DDHemi and I give our buddy Chuck Richardson the Fly-By on Hwy 18 every year through Amish country  Another smaller show I enjoy attending is Verona’s car show during Hometown Days. The VFD landscape is host to this show, and the Sugar River Cruisers put this on. They do a good job and its close to home for me. Last year I was excited to see the ’69 Camaro of Ray Reeson’s at the show. One of Ray’s sons is a friend of mine, and I was fortunate enough to get Ray’s car featured in a movie filmed in Central WI a couple years ago. One thing I would like to see implemented at this show is either a fire truck display or an antique fire truck display since it is held at the VFD. Another small show I enjoyed last year was Brodhead. I didn’t get to stick around because severe weather threatened the show, but my family is from there and its nice to go see them, and see the house my dad grew up in.

As far as larger shows, there’s only 3 that I can say I honestly enjoy – Automotion in the Dells, Blanchardville, and Pardeeville. Automotion is my Daytona 500 of the car show season. Its a two day event, I spend the whole weekend in the Dells with great friends, get to see lots of awesome cars, and there is a teeny tiny bit of recreational, responsible partying that takes place. But, being on the verge of the big 3-0, I’ve settled down a bit :P Last year was the first year in 10 years of attending Automotion that I won an award, and not only was I suprised but I was also humbled. Not a bad first ‘at bat’ for the 442. Blanchardville I consider my hometown show. If Mt. Horeb had a show, that would be my hometown show, but since they don’t and I haven’t heard squat from the Chamber, Blanchardville is it. Frank has his equipment together, and this show runs smooth IMO. Granted, its usually the middle of July and there is no air moving in that valley, and now thanks to the dumbass football coach a lot of those big, shady oak trees were removed  But the show still goes on, there’s plenty of food and ice cream to be had, cold beer always hits the spot on a hot day, and Frank does something special each year. Pardeeville is the other show I enjoy because that’s where Mom’s side of the family originates. I get to see many aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout the day. Jim and Vicki Nelson really work hard to put this show together, and when it comes to judging I do not envy any of those folks – the competition is very stiff. Plus, Jim played in the Pardeeville High School band with my mom – gotta support the class of ’71! The park is well shaded as long as you don’t get stuck on the football field, so get there early. Plus, if you’re parked up against the lake, you can just toss your trash in it  J/K :)

As for shows I don’t like attending… I don’t like the shows where the same cars win every year. Beloit Autorama is a good example. This show gets tons of nice cars, and the same guys win awards every year. How about giving some other guys/girls a chance? I still haven’t changed my perspectives of the Albany and Reedsburg shows since last year. Piss poor judging, bottom line. Albany invited DDhemi and I to there meeting to give our two wooden nickles, but then never called. Reedsburg, well, I think we all know how that one turned out  The Keystone cops won’t be graced with my presence this year, so I’m sure the show will be excellent! I also won’t attend any Goodguys events. Fordasaki’s attitude along with the IMO ridiculous prices have shadowed my view of the whole organization. Plus I don’t think its fair to have a 1972 cutoff for show attendees. Not trying to start any drama, just sayin…

I agree that healthcare costs are high, but the G involving themselves in private business is wrong. Anyone with healthcare thru a government job or the company they work for will see sharp increases in there premiums – higher than they are now.

How exactly are you concerned with the government getting involved? The bill that passed has no single payer or public option. The extent that the government gets involved is changing some laws which prevent insurance from dropping people for pre-existing conditions (etc), increasing subsidies to the poorest Americans who can’t afford healthcare, and creating insurance “exchanges” where if you don’t get your insurance through your employer, you can go through this “exchange” to find the best rate. There is no government-run healthcare option (like a public option) in the exchange, however.

Personally I think its about time that they did get involved with private business in the issue where insurers were dropping clients so they could make a profit and forcing those they dropped to either bankrupt from medical bills or die

Insurance companies are a private business in a capitalist society. The object of business is to make profits, correct? As a business, they can choose to follow what rules they put in place. No one is denied healthcare on the premise of insurance or no insurance. A person can pay $5 a month for the rest of there life for medical practices.

I agree that children born with a condition should not be punished and told they cannot be covered. IMO, the way to get healthcare costs down is an easy one – boycott. If 75% of the American people cancelled there healthcare, the insurance companies would have no choice but to negotiate with the consumer. However, forcing the American people to have healthcare is not right either. Under the new legislation, you will be fined if you do not have coverage. If you don’t pay the fine, you go to jail. While you’re in jail, you will recieve free healthcare. Quite the circle of life, isn’t it?

This is a debate that could go on until Fall Jefferson. We can blame greedy Republicans, we can blame socialist Democrats, we can blame the health care industry, we can blame GWB, and we can blame Ted Kennedy. The point I’m trying to make is you can’t force an American Citizen to have healthcare, and you can’t spend money the country doesn’t have. The Obama Administration has done nothing but spend spend spend. And all the time they are spending, there followers blame guys like Reagan, Bush 1 & 2, Rush Limbaugh, Star Jones, Micheal Vick, and anyone else they can find for the economic woes. The healthcare fiasco will cost us, the taxpayer, money. It will also cost the generations we create and so forth.

There were better ways to go about this. Those behind it had closed door meetings, kept out certain members of the senate and congress, and all the while what for? Personal agendas and financial gain. Every day I’m starting to think it is the administrations’ agenda to run this country into the ground.

I think Obama has gotten a bum wrap. He is doing something which other President’s haven’t had the guts to do. Health care is a very complex and controversial issue. There are many factors involved. At least we have a starting point now. It can be fine tuned from here.

Yes, and it will be fine tuned at our expense. If you thought the middle class got the shaft before, just you wait. As I stated elsewhere, I agree that healthcare costs are high, but the G involving themselves in private business is wrong. Anyone with healthcare thru a government job or the company they work for will see sharp increases in there premiums – higher than they are now.

Mark my words, Obama will be a one-term President. The Citizens of the USA will take back this country!

I think many of the problems that have come to a head recently got their roots starting with Reagan. He did a number of things such as anti union activity, credit related changes. These philosophies were continued with Bush, Clinton and then Bush again. Loosening of credit, affordability of housing, removing regulations, etc. Putting people in a position where getting over-extended is very easy. People will say that a person should be more responsible than to get themselves in trouble financially. The majority of humans aren’t like that, they will take the easy way out to reach a goal if it is available.

Loosening of credit? Kind of like Obama giving the banks $700B in loans? Obama having the treasury print more money than what actually exists?

I agree with you that the credit card companies over extend to many people who cannot afford to pay back what they have borrowed. Many also used that same credit card for BS purchases to beging with. IMO, a credit card is for Emergencies Only. If I can’t pay cash for it, I don’t need it. Same goes for everyone else…

If you’re going to blame Reagan, then I will blame Carter for the problems of today as he was in charge of the country during the recession of the 70s. The next guy will blame Gerry Ford, and the next will blame Nixon, and so on. Its still easy to blame GWB – I’m not saying I agreed with all of his policies, but someone needs to tell Mr. Obama that gas is $2.85/gal and he’s in charge. Last time we had high fuel prices, it was GWB’s fault.

My wife had some medical issues back in December, which pulled me away from the forum for the past few months. She’s on the mend now, and I am starting to gear up for the 2010 season.

I’ve pre registered for a couple of shows, and thinking about either attending Back to the 50s in June or the GoodGuys Show in Joliet in September. I did apply for the Cars On State Street show, but have not heard whether my car will get in or not.

Only six more weeks to Spring Jefferson!!!!

    :woohoo:

Good to hear you’re still around!!! I hope all is better with the Mrs. and that she is on the mend!!!

Concealed carry would make criminals think twice about committing a crime IMO. Example- A robber walks up to you, says “give me give me your wallet, or I’ll shank you!” Instead of handing him your wallet, you pull out a 9mm… He has now brought a knife to the gun fight. The majority of personal robberies and muggings usually involve an assault to subdue the victim. Its a proven statistic that crime rates have dropped sharply in states with a concealed carry law, but there are rules to carrying also. 1, you have to be 21 years of age, 2, you must pass a firearms course, 3, you cannot be a felon.

Yes, you are going to have your vigilate’s out there. But Madison already has vigilate’s, there called the Guardian Angels :)
