I’m done for the year, though I wished the summer wasn’t over.
moparkid25ParticipantJefferson has turned into more of a garage sale than an automotive swap meet and car show. I didn’t go to either one this year.
moparkid25ParticipantYou may want to go pimp your film making skills somewhere else. This forum is for those who enjoy cars, not movies.
moparkid25ParticipantI have thought a lot about this before posting my .02:
I am a firm believer that participant judging never really works. Its a popularity contest 95% of the time. I am guilty of voting for my friends and aquaintance’s cars also. I have seen a lot of good vehicles get picked over because of Good Ol’ Boy Syndrome, who that person is in the car community, etc.
I feel that participant judging is ok for a 1st year show. A first year show has a lot of bugs to work out, and if you’re on a limited budget having the participants vote does take away the stress of having to assemble a judging team.
Even with judges though, some shows still play favorites. When having judges, you have to have knowledgeable people judging these cars!!! I have been to quite a few shows (Albany and Reedsburg come to mind) where IMO the judges didn’t have a clue what they were looking at. I have been very vocal on this subject all summer both here on WCC and in person, and its one of many reasons ddhemi and I have earned the nickname “Car show’s most hated”
I would have to agree with Lordairgtar and MMRJR on both of there points. Lordairgtar talks of the miscellanious participant ballots – I have been to shows where they have done this and the format seems to work. Chances are you will have to judge a class where you know an owner of a vehicle, and if you feel they have the nicest car in the class, vote for it. Participant voting is nothing more the awarding the best liked cars in class per personal preference. Yes, its obvious when certain cars win that they’re fan club voted for them. Marshall, the idea of an independant party to judge the cars is also smart. But, to judge a show around here, you would have to find someone knowledgeable that isn’t from the area to keep it as fair as possible. I’m not saying any local boys would play favorites, but if a judge had no ties to the area I feel it would be more fair. However, unless you know someone, this could be a lot of hoops to jump thru to make happen.
IMHO, I would say that if your having a participant judged show, split the ballots up in an attempt of fairness, though personal preference will previal. In a judged show, as long as you have people that know what there looking at, can put any personal preference or conflicts aside, and will be fair, you will have a good car show.
moparkid25ParticipantI follow it, but don’t have as much excitement as I did when #3 was going around the track. I follow Kenseth as a good friend of mine is on Ross’ pit crew and Matt’s crew when he races here at home. In the cup chase, you have 3 of the 4 Hendrick cars. When are they gonna get Jr’s team straightened out? I don’t he’s the driver his dad was, but he’s a better driver than what he’s been doing the last couple years. I think it helped his team getting rid of Tony Eury, but he still dragging ass at 21st position. I am impressed to see Tony Stewarts two cars in the chase being a first year team, and I’m glad that little prick Kyle Busch isn’t a contender either (however his older brother is).
Sure would be cool if Mark Martin won it all
moparkid25ParticipantI swung by Marshall’s tonight and picked it up.
Marshall, you have a very nice home along with a well detailed garage to keep the Mustang in!
Thanks again
moparkid25ParticipantMy neighbor attended Mecum last spring, and brought home a 1 of 16 White 1967 Dodge Coronet 440 equipped with a Hemi and a 4 speed
moparkid25ParticipantSaw this on another forum I belong to last week. I think this could’ve been done with computer simulation as opposed to destroying a perfectly good car
Kinda scary when you look back on it, but them old cars still got more class lookswise than the new stuff
moparkid25ParticipantI’ll take it, Marshall. We’ll have to get together this week so I can get it out of your hair…
This will also save ddhemi from having to spend any of his moldy money replacing his that House of Horsepower “borrowed” and broke on him
moparkid25ParticipantDDHemi and I were in Vegas a few years ago. We checked this museum out while we were there, lots of nice stuff with ridicoulous price tags on it. Fun to walk thru though.
moparkid25ParticipantThis has been a big problem this year at shows. The Road Apples did it right with a Modern Muscle Car class.
I like to think that next year many shows will also adapt a class for the new stuff
moparkid25ParticipantI PM’d you, I may be interested in it
moparkid25ParticipantMy focus this winter will be on the GF’s car.
She wanted to add some extra spice to it, so I’ve been researching mod’s for her car She had the windows tinted the other day, and we’re going to do some wheel shopping over the winter. There is also some paintwork on the hood, doors, and frt bumper that needs to be re-shot. Nothing real time consuming, but something to keep me a little busy this winter.
I’ve also been shopping for another project myself. I would like to get something to have over the winter, but with the Impala in the garage, the motorcycle, and two full-size trucks the room tends to shrink
moparkid25ParticipantI’m here, what more do you need?
moparkid25ParticipantThis is how I would do it:
-Offer tax incentives to large companies that are based here in the US so that they don’t move there manufacturing operation overseas. This in turn creates jobs for Americans.
-Push WI legislation to approve a concealed carry law. WI is one of two states in the Nation that don’t allow concealed carry. This act has proven lower crime rates in every state that passed a C.C. law.
-Proposed legislation such as Trans 123 would be veto’d. Obviously the Gov’t doesn’t realize how many more jobs are created from custom vehicle work.
-Health Care. Offer more tax incentive to any company that carries an HMO for there employees. You can’t lobby or strong arm the insurance companies into lowering there rates – they are a business too, and Government should stay out of Private Business! If you don’t have health insurance, you wouldn’t be denied healthcare just like nowdays. Most hospitals will put you on a payment plan that is affordable to your needs. This in turn may get those too lazy to work out into the workforce….but most likely not.
-Gov’t programs like Welfare would cease to exist. Too many induviduals take advantage of this, and has since tarnished what the program was originally designed for. Also, all these programs to feed starving children in other countries would halt until no child in the USA no longer goes hungry – We need to worry about ourselves before we worry about others, it may sound selfish but its true.
-Any alien crossing the border illegally would be shot on sight. After a few bodies thrown back over the fence, the rest will get the message. If you want to reside in this country, do it legally.
-The death penalty will be limited to child molestors, rapists, terrorists, murderers, and any other criminal who commits such a heinous crime. The Bible states “An eye for an eye”.
-ALL school teachers will have to be tested and prove there compitence before recieving a teaching license. No child left behind…. Also teachers will not teach classes based off there personal opine, they will teach everything down the middle and not persuade students to vote republican or democreep.
-Offer the working class the tax credits alledgedly offered by the current administration, except you wouldn’t be taxed on the $13 break your getting now.
-Wasteful spending would stop. All Senate and Congress members would be given a standard, blue-collar salary that doesn’t see any increase in wages. Too many politicians abuse there power for financial gain. Donations would only be available for the campaign trail. No earmarks, no bonuses, NOTHING. All politicians would also only be allowed to serve two terms in office. There is no need for career politicians.
-Budgets would be very concise, thus getting this country back in the black and out of debt.
-The White House will not control the CIA. They can use any means neccesary to get info from suspected criminals and terrorists. Why should we play nice, you know they’re not with there prisoners….
-There would be no cuts in Military funding. You can’t put a price on the freedom of the citizens of this country.
I’ll quit now, all this has made me hungry :woohoo:
