New unemployment claims are growing at a rate of 30 percent from last year, and the state likely will run out of money to pay benefits by early next year.

You are correct. It is kinda like how Kodak is dieing since they didn’t jump on the digital camera bandwagen 10 yrs ago.

American Family to cut 160 contractual workers
More layoffs, in Middleton and Neilsville
Mortgage IT, Inc. in Middleton has informed the state Department of Workforce Development that it plans to shut down its Middleton office, 1350 Deming Way. 72 employees and is expected to be permanent.
The DWD also said Regal Beloit said it will close its Leeson Electric facility in Neilsville between Feb. 10 and April 30, laying off 37 workers at the plant.
84 Lumber on Monday closed its truss manufacturing facility in McFarland.
The closing resulted in 28 people losing their jobs at the 32,000-square-foot facility.
WEST BEND, Wis. — Gehl Co. announced Monday it’s cutting 62 salaried employees and 19 hourly employees because of the economic downturn in housing and construction.
The cuts represent about 18 percent of Gehl’s 350 salaried workers in the United States.
Cummins Emission Solutions on Thursday announced that it has laid off about 100 employees at its Mineral Point plant.
Alcoa Inc. said Thursday it will close its aluminum wheel plant in Beloit next year, a move that will put about 250 people out of work.
Tomotherapy in Madison laid off 65 workers yesterday.
Wausau Paper Corp. will lay off 90 workers in 2009.

I hope there wrong. This State is so poorly managed now that they don’t need anymore people to find jobs for.

Biotech firm EMD Chemicals, formerly Novagen, to close
One of Madison’s oldest biotech research operations will be closing at the end of the year, affecting about 70 employees at the former Novagen.
NCR Corp. says production at it’s plant in Viroqua, Wis. will end by March 31, idling about 80 workers.
The company operated the plant in western Wisconsin for 40 years.
A Plover food processing plant will close its doors this year, according to a notice filed with the state.

QuantcastBasic American Foods, 4930 Hayes Ave., Plover, will shutter its local facility, putting 106 employees out of work, according to a notice filed Friday with the state Department of Workforce Development and posted on its Web site. The company is scheduled to lay off workers March 31, but it will complete its layoffs in phases by Sept. 1.
Its Biron location will remain open, but Greg Ellious Motors has closed its Plover and Wisconsin Rapids stores, eliminating about 20 jobs, one of the dealership’s owners said.
Governor Doyle is indicating that about 700 state employees will lose their jobs this coming year, here in Wisconsin.
In order to facilitate this, the DOA (Department of Administration)hired 83 new state employees earlier this month at startings salaries of $15 to $17 an hour (plus benefits) to process unemployment claims.:huh:
Apparantly the state does not currently have enough people currently on the payroll to handle the large and ever increasing numbers of people filing for unemployment compensation.:lol:
