Well the cold nasty stuff is coming soon so it is time to think about winter projects …

Do you have any plans this year?

Are you looking for something special like this tiger with glowing red eyes for your third brake light (look for this sitting in my back window next year)

Or maybe you are looking for a new set of rims?

Or maybe a new prop for your car show display (hot trend for 2012):

Or maybe a little maintenance (don’t forget to top off that blinker fluid):

Looking to find a decent fitting size of 16″ Hoosier QTP’s to keep the rear end from spinning. Just purchased a MAF translator and an LS1 MAF sensor for the old girl too. Also going to get some new gauges for the inside and find some better flowing exhaust.

I’m currently gathering a bunch of parts this winter and then I’m going to take my car in to have it all installed this spring.

New hood hinges (the rivets in the current ones are loose) and while the hood is off paint the underside the correct flat black color.

I’m getting together the 100 different pieces I need to reinstall the AC and extended oil dipstick.

    Install the correct battery cables.

I’m having the correct original to the car carb rebuilt this winter (or hope it can be rebuilt due to the striped out fuel inlet). It came in a box when I got the car.

Rebuild the distributor (springs and weights are original)

Install the correct dual snorkel air intake (I have the skills to do this one); as the current one is a single snorkel you would find on a 2 barrel carb and someone drilled like 50 holes in it to let in more air (I guess flipping the cover to let more air in was a lot harder then drilling 50 holes)

Inside the car … pull the dash put in a new used dash insert to replace the current one that the radio hole is cut out.

Install a factor AM radio; and then install a dash dual speaker and a hidden amp so I can plug in my ipod (I had the same setup on my Beetle).

My parts search has been going very well as there is a good network of GTO owners out there. There is one website I go to, you can list the parts you need and folks will contact you with photos and prices on their used pieces (typically within a day). Imagine walking into the Jefferson swap meet and yelling out your needs and 5 minutes later 3 people walking up with your parts …

Are you going to convert your ignition over to electronic, or keep the points and condenser?

I had it converted to electronic under the cap when I first got it… does that mean they also swap the springs and weights or does that eliminate them? I just remember at one point during the 2 month process I was told to think about swapping them out (but I don’t recall if that was before or after he swapped in the petronics.

Just bought a Z06. Gotta get it fully detailed and car show worthy. Also need to apply a few “bolt-ons” so i have my hands full this winter.

New exhaust on Ashley’s 350z, and new exhaust and supercharger on my 370Z, probably tear apart my headlights too.

Ooo I’m excited to see this! I’ve always thought the Z06 was the best ‘vette design since the 70s… just stunning. Have you driven it much yet or just waiting for now given the cold weather?

    jonmandude,

Good to see you back on forum. Welcome back! Do you remember, we chatted for a few minutes at the Spring Green show last year. Your new ride is awesome!!!

I had heard that the pistol grip shifter knob was available, but I had not seen one yet. The wood grain and pistol grip shifter knob are first class!

I sold the mustang fastback to an MD in Texas last month, and I am on the hunt for a 66/67 Chevelle/Malibu convertible.

MMRJR, yes I remember, it was nice seeing a familiar face. Thanks for the warm return and the compliment. Sorry to hear about you selling the ‘Stang. You put a lot into her. Good luck on the hunt for the right bowtie.

I may be back running the Lube cruise-in again, at least it is being discussed.

Hi Jon – good to see you again. Have you been working on any new projects over the winter?

Really like that pistol grip shifter very nice look. This is the time of year we also do some updates on the Monte. This year we installed new headers ,replaced the plugs and wires, put in a MSD billet distributor and removed the cats. Also bought a set of brushed aluminum sheet metal for under the hood that I will install over the next couple weeks. Started the Monte up yesterday and broke the tv cable for the trans so this will have to fixed first before we can take a cruise.Every year do these little projects to keep my sanity while waiting for spring. Can’t wait for that first cruise have fun………
