as you can see I show chrysler K-cars, many think that they are simply daily drivers still, but in book any car over 20 years old is a collector, which brings this to my attention, I’ve begun to notice this, most car shows are owned by the older folk with their Hemis and other muscle cars. But what about us? the 18-25 year olds? we simply don’t got that kind of cash to play wtih. So what I am getting as is, have you noticed the change of years at car shows? Most people are bringing the 80’s stuff in now. Its simply a new generation B)

While its true a lot of 80s and 90s cars are starting to pop up, nationally it hasnt really grown a whole lot. It might have a lot to do with that there really were not a lot of (Ill use this term very very loosely) “iconic” or “collectables” that really stood out. The ones that have stayed around are usually niche cars. But this is a topic with no real right or wrong to it.

As for the new generation of enthusiasts…I think we will start to see a lot of cool things. Im in that group as well. From imports to the 80s/90s niche cars to those that go the modern muscle and import route. I think we will also see a new twist on styling/customizing with a good amount of retro stylings, ideas, etc twisted with modern materials and techniques….quite literally the hotrods of our generation.

I don’t think you will see the market of 80-90’s cars pick up much until they reach a value where you can buy one that needs paint, engine work and interior work and once you are done with that you can still get most of your money back. Will there be a niche market of ultra low mile cars, yes. And will people still dump a ton of cash into a car to relive a dream, yes.

You will see the trend of new age muscle continue to grow (we have all seen the number of these cars increase over the past 5 yrs). From imports to domestic. There is a giant aftermarket part supply for them and for under 30k you can buy a brand new stock 5.0 Mustang. Sure they are not collector cars today, but for these folks they want a modern, cool looking, excellent handling, quick cars, which in many cases get decent MPG). And the days for these cars are numbered due to the federal mandate of MPG (I think it is like 45 MPG on ave by 2020).

You will also see a lot more LS1’s and the new 5.0 going into cars of all ages. Lots of power, modern, and again it will help with MPG (which is also going to become an issue for the folks wanting a weekend cruiser; I don’t want to have to pay 8 bucks in gas when I want to make a quick run out to buy a gallon of milk)

to each or his own, I’m an 80’s mopar person, the blue book value keeps going up every year, early K-cars…5,000 shelby omnis 6,000-10,000 depending on condition. Any car can be fun to own..weather its slow or fast.

Its a sign of the times.

In the not too distant past, I drove a Monte Carlo SS in high school. In the late 90s, that car was only 10 years old. I never thought of it as a “classic”. I soon sold it, bought another one, then sold that, and picked out my dream car. I love 60’s muscle cars, and I’m slightly above that 18-25 mark. Nowdays, I’m back where I started, driving a late 80’s G-Body. Not because I’m so in love with them (but I am), because Mopar muscle cars are my hot ticket. I wanted to build something different that I hadn’t done before.

I see more and more young people getting into the show scene, and I think its great. Some have the Modern Muscle car, some have imports, and some have classic muscle cars. Its not about what you drive, its the interest that we all share.

Agree with all that’s been said here. I may not like your import, or the loud music you play (or the porn I’ve seen more than once at shows), but that’s what you like and I respect that. One day the hot rods and muscle cars we see today will unfortunately be gone, or handed down to a generation who could care less about them ~ enjoy it now!

Ive been to a few shows were the A/V installs were blaring loud and showing porn (which is illegal in a public event) (not that I have anything against porn either…as an artist Im pretty liberal lol).

But it is cool to see all these new sub cultures of the car scene blooming. And it keeps expanding. Just look at the import scene…it used to be just modern imports, now its vintage imports, luxury builds, A/V genre, track-ready, etc….and thats only happened over the past 10 years or so.

So basically there are catagories for everyone now and its good to see clubs and shows embracing this evolution.

IIRC, wasn’t there a car show a couple of years ago at the nudist colony over by Cambridge? I know I didn’t go because I didn’t any other guys to get jealous….

Showing porn at a car show is tasteless. Showing porn on my bigscreen while hosting a batchelor party is priceless!! I hate when some ricer (present company excluded) has to have his stereo blasting some gangsta shit where every other word is the F word, or a term thats disrespectful to women. I’m pretty open minded when it comes to lyrics, but rappin about a drive by or beating a ho doesn’t make you cool.

IMO, unless its an A/V show, stereos and screens should remain off. And keep the porn at home (or bachelor parties lol). Although Ive been to a few shows where I was asked to remove some of my airbrushings…which is a whole different conversation.

As for music blaring and such…I get equally annoyed by rednecks in their 5.0’s blasting their hick country crap. Present company excluded of course. (Just kidding of course).

Interesting conversation, I fit into the aforementioned 18-25 category so I’ll chip in my two cents…after all I fear the classic luxury division of car shows may not be adequately represented by present discussion participants! Besides everyone knows that “Ricers” blasting rap and pickups blasting country at car shows are equally annoying and inappropriate. What makes sense are 20-25 year old box Chevy Caprices, Town Cars, and Cadillac’s blasting a mix of 80 to present rap at the shows, and to this end my Cadillac and its 660 watt sub system will be happy to provide all your entertainment needs! lol.

And just in case you don’t believe me I cite evidence here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quKE3ZRiBNs

Disclaimer for those who choose to click on the link…the final verse includes some of that ever popular “rappin about a drive by or beatin a hoe” and “every other word is the F word” on occasion.

When I hear rap at a car show, I pop in my Whitesnake cassette, Check the tightroll on my acid washed jeans, tuck in my Vaurnet t-shirt, and let the wind blow thru my mullet.

My wife and I have been showing cars in car shows for about 8 years now. In this time we have had a 84 and 85 Monte Carlo SS. We just love the style of these cars. The 84 was pure stock but the 85 has gone through lot of changes. From modified engine and custom interior to putting a 1000 watt amp and subs in the trunk. When we attend shows we really like the variety of cars and trucks. As well as able to tell what they have done to their rides. I believe cars are built not bought so those cars get my vote. The different music is not bad as long as you respect the other around you. I see some younger people at these show’s and some really ask alot of questions. I think this is great. Can’t wait for spring already.Just my 2 cents. HAPPY HOLIDAYSB)

I’m well past the 18 – 25 age demographic, but my first show car was an 83 mercury Marquis Brougham station wagon, and my current car is a year old HHR Panel with custom pin stripping. Much as I love the older cars, I can’t afford, nor do I have the space to store one in. Keep on loving that K car. Historically, they were an important era for the US and Chrysler and may have saved the company. I used to own an 84 Charger. You never see those anywhere anymore. As far as the loud car stereo systems go, not everyone may be into your taste of music. Plus if a show provides entertainment, keep the thing turned off or as low as only you can hear it.

“keep on loving that K-car” Well thank you :) I actually got 3 of them that I show, it really turns the heads at a show, little kids have no idea what kind of car it is. So they always want a pic in front of them.
