The last few weeks I’ve had messages on my phone consistently from the Census Bureau. Tonight I had a chance to call them back and was basically told my household has been picked for a survey I am required to do by the Federal Government. I indicated I was not interested, take my name/number off the list and move on. Apparently, that is NOT an option, this survey is required and only 2% of the 40,000 households do not participate. I was told they would continue calling for the next four months, and eventually will find someone willing to do the survey. Even if we move and someone else gets our number, that person will be required to do the survey. I was so upset I hung up on the idiot on the other end ~ has anyone ever heard of anything like this? I can’t believe I’m harrassed in my own home. I was told a “Superior Chief” would be contacting me about my unwillingness to do this survey.

So, long story short ~ I should blow this off? The person at the “Census Bureau” tonight was very rude, even accused me of calling him names, which I never did. Needless to say, a very upsetting call.

    Circletrack,

This really doesn’t sound like it is on the up and up. I have a hard and fast rule of not giving out any personal information to anyone I don’t know. I suppose if you wanted to stop the calls, you could leave your answering machine on 24/7 and not return any calls to them. Better yet, find out exactly who they are, what they want, and then make a complaint to the telephone company of harassing phone calls from them.

I hope my two cents helps.

The $100 fine is probably real.

In the first link that I provided there is a post from someone who
supposedly works for the Census. I think it’s on page three.

The second link is for the Census Bureau.

I recall as a kid a loooong time ago that a census was being
taken and we participated. But after reading some of the posts
in the first link……..I don’t know!!!!

If it’s true that they want your employer’s name and phone number,
    well, your choice!!!

Also, in the first link the people said the Census people were rude,
and it seems to have happened to you too.

    post and reply.

People are giving up their privacy, rights and freedom at an alarming
pace. People who fly had to dispose of items that they had purchased.
I read someplace that those items were then sold. crybaby2.gif

I also read that people have to take off their shoes before boarding the
plane. I don’t know if that’s true or not!

We recently had a utility company tell us that we HAD to replace something.
I kept asking for PROOF that it was defective. They refused. So we
had to spend $1,000 to replace it…….BECAUSE THEY SAID SO. dontknow.gif

Is Adam still around, I thought he said awhile back he was going to leave? If not – Circletrack – he’s the guy to talk to concerning legal matters.

You never know with phone scams. Perhaps you could call the telephone company or search on the internet to figure out where that phone number originated. If it is indeed a government building/number, then you know that it is real.

It sounds like a bunch of bull. I have never heard of the government doing a survey like that. And if they do you wouldn’t you think they would be a little more professional about it, but on the other hand with what is in the White House, I guess it wouldn’t surprise me.

The second link in my post is for the Census Bureau.

Here is a link to a sample questionnaire…

    http://www.census.gov/acs/www/Downloads/SQuest05.pdf

It seems like the personal questions begin on
    page 8 with question 23…

    23. Last week did this person do any work for pay or profit?

    24. What is the address where the person worked?

    41. Wages, salary etc…..? Self-employment income?
Income from interest, dividends, rental income etc.
    Social Security, welfare ….etc.

    42. Total income for past 12 months?

Last year in the mail we got a census form to fill out. of course I did not fill it out. About 2 weeks after that got another letter stating you must fill out this form blah blah or you can be fined and jailed blah blah. Well I did fill it out, (but it never stated how truthful you had to be).
I think we tend to give out tooooo much personal info and I don’t care who you are you are not entitled to it, especially if you are the government. So if you call back maybe have some “fibs” or non truthful answers for them.
