    I had these classes down as what I was going to use. 1900-1929, 1930-39, 1940-1949, 1950-1959, 1960-1965, 1966-1969, 1970-1979, 1980-1989, 1990-present, Trucks/SUV, Lowrider/Custom, Street Rod, Rat Rod, Muscle Car, Special Interest, Motorcycle Original/Custom, Trailered, Survivor, and Exotic/Euro.

After more thought I am thinking about changing them a little bit. (With a little assistance form friends) I’m considering to have a Modern Muscle class. I also think I may delete the modified classes of 1900-1929 1930-1939, 1940-1949, as they would most likely fit into Street Rod. I also may make a larger class of 1900-1939
with those changes I would also be able to add a 1900-1960 truck catagory stock and a 1900-1960 modified then I would have a 1961-1980 stock and modified combined. The rest of trucks would fall into the Truck/Suv catagory which already exists both stock and modified combined. so now the list would be…………………

what are your thoughts on these??????????

    1900-1939 stock,
    1940-1949 stock,
    1950-1959 stock,
    1960-1965 stock,
    1966-1969 stock,
    1970-1979 stock,
    1900-1939 modified,
    1940-1949 modfiied,
    1950-1959 modified,
    1960-1965 modified,
    1966-1969 modified,
    1970-1979 modified,
    1980-1989 stock and modified,
    1990-present stock and modified,
    1900-1960 Trucks stock,
    1900-1961 Trucks Modified,
    Trucks/SUV stock or modified,
    1961-1980 stock or modified,
    Lowrider/Custom any years,
    Street Rod,
    Rat Rod,
Muscle Car/Sports Car up to 1999,
    Modern Muscle Car 2000 newer,
    Special Interest,
    Motorcycle Original,
    Motorcycle Chopper,
    Trailered,
    Survivor,
    Euro.

How many cars are you expecting?

Making the earlier classes for a longer time period makes sense. The modern muscle is a good idea. Trucks are getting more and more popular so having a class for them makes sense.

I have been taught if your product is good and you want it to be bigger and better product listen to your customers and improve your service. So I took all of last years ideas from the participants comment cards I handed out and made as many improvements as I could. I have no idea how many will show up. Last year I thought 30 would come and 140 showed so this year I hope for 140.!!!! B) I hoope your planning on attending!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1900-1939 stock,
    1940-1949 stock,

Combine the above (there are fewer and fewer stock cars from these years showing up to shows).

    1950-1959 stock,
    1960-1965 stock,
1966-1969 stock (the issue with this class is that are are a lot of popular cars during this era, may need a Mustang/Camaro class)

    1970-1979 stock,

    1900-1939 modified,
    1940-1949 modified,

    Again I would combine

    1950-1959 modified,
    1960-1965 modified,
    1966-1969 modified,
    1970-1979 modified,
    1980-1989 stock and modified,
1990-present stock and modified (if you have this it could include the tuner in it)
    1900-1960 Trucks stock,
    1900-1960 Trucks Modified,

    Trucks/SUV stock or modified,
    1961-1980 stock or modified,

Lowrider/Custom any years, (I would stick with “lowrider” and you will need to make sure the lower-riders in the area know that is a show has a lowrider section or there is a good chance that no low riders will show up)

Street Rod (you need to define this, or someone with something that is not a Street Rod will try to sneak in)

Rat Rod, (samething. define it or a kid with a 1994 civic with holes in it will enter it as a Rat Rod… I’ve seen this before…

Muscle Car/Sports Car up to 1999, (the main issue with this one is a 1969 GTO could be put up against a 1999 mustang …. maybe a classic muscle group 1964-1973 and next gen muscle group 1982-1999; again you could run into an issue with the cars in the 1965-1970 not spread out over their possible 5 groups; The key thing is if you have a class just for a certain type of car… say a Corvette … you need to make sure all the Vette’s are in that class)

    Modern Muscle Car 2000 newer,

Special Interest, (define it or folks will try to sneak in … I honestly would drop this class)
    Motorcycle Original,
    Motorcycle Chopper,
Trailered (tough class since there is typically one 1 or 2 cars that are trailer’ed in)

Survivor (have to define it … folks with a repaint will try to jump into the class)

Euro. (I can’t say I’ve seen too many euro’s at shows … but you do need a Tuner class)

The key to all of this is to have good definitions of each class and what is Stock and what is modified (Stock could be no more than 4 modifications) and making sure people are put into the right class (the folks that run Blanchardville do a great job at this). And making sure folks register soon after they arrive. I’ve seen it plenty of times folks roll in a dawn, wait until 5 minutes before registration ends to run around see what class has the lowest numbers to put the car into (pretty sad if you ask me). Also, I’ve seen folks register and then see there is a class their car fits into with only 2 cars in it 5 minutes before registration ends to class jump (again sad …), these are the folks that come early and then at 10:55 you see them driving over to a new class.

Finally if people get bent out of shape about your rules, refund their money and tell them to have a nice day… :)

I would suggest a class for Mustangs/Camaros/Pony Cars (1964 -1973). This would include all first generation Mustangs (64-73), first generation Chevy Camaros, Mercury Cougars, and any other “pony” car from those years. This pulls cars out of two typically large stock classes, and makes a separate class for these with alot of cars in it, also.

If this doesn’t work out for this year’s show, you could always change it for next year’s show.

You can count on my support for this years show, and I will be bringing several other cars with me, also. Last year, I had five cars in my group. We will have at least five cars in my group or more for this years show.

    There were my suggestions:

Modified from 1900 to 1950 would be most likely street rods as there aren’t that many modified cars around from that time period.

    Stock 1951-1960
    Stock 1961-1969
    Stock 1970-1979
    Stock 1980 to present.

You also should only have 3 modifications for your stock class. I don’t necessarily consider paint to be a modification, but some shows do.

Your modified classes the same years. Have you considered a modern muscle class? That would include cars from 2000 to present like the Mustangs, Vipers, Challengers, Chargers & Camaros.

You need to make sure your special interest class does not allow these cars in, but also decide what Special Interest means to you.

    Trucks 1900-1960
    1961-1980 (modified or not)
1980-present (there are not a lot of these trucks around that enter shows)

I’m not a fan of having special classes for only Mustangs, or whatever. It’s great to see so many cars at shows, but where do you draw the line for specific classes for Mustangs, Chevelles, Camaros… etc!

I guess it depends on what you get at your show.

Above all, have fun with this. I know you had some issues last year with the weather and such. Enjoy yourself, learn to lean on others for help and realize every show is not perfect!

Another thing to remember.. the more classes.. the more awards and $$$ you will need. We’ve modeled our show after the Pardeeville Show and it worked well last year. You don’t want an overwhelming choice of classes, that will only cause confusion.

    These are our classes:

    A) Street Rod up to and including 1936
    B) Street Rod 1937-1948
    C) Stock 1900-1949
    D) Stock 1950-1959
    E) Stock 1960-1969
    F) Stock 1970-1979
    G) Stock 1980-present
    H) Modified 1949-1959
    I) Modified 1960-1969
    J) Modified 1970-1979
    K) Modified 1980-present
    L) Survivor – 20 years and older
    M) Muscle Cars (1964-1974)
    N) Modern Muscle (82-present) (includes newer Mustang, Camaro, Charger, Challenger)
    O) Special Interest (no late model muscle)
    P) Sports Cars 1949-1970
    Q) Sports Cars 1971-2000
    R) British Sports Cars
    S) Custom Cars (Lead Sleds, etc.)
    T) Trucks & Vans (Modified) 1900-1960
    U) Trucks & Vans (Modified) 1961-present
    V) Trucks & Vans (Stock) 1900-1960
    W) Trucks & Vans (Stock) 1961-present
    X) Low Riders, Tuners
    Y) Rat Rods up to and including 1954
    Z) Motorcycles

We talked about a trailered class, but that is very hard as people with trailers *tend* to park at the grocery store, a few blocks down ~ or wherever and drive the cars a short distance. I’ve seen this firsthand, and it’s rather insulting to owners like us who drive our cars during the week and to the shows, so you have to hope these people are honest if you don’t actually see the trailer pull in.

That is indeed a tough question. As you may have seen, we’ve been discussing how to make the best/most appropriate classes for awhile now on the forum and the fruits of our discussions is this thing called the WCC Classes and Judging Standard – which is a consensus of appropriate classes for different sized shows. Have a look and see what you think.

I think you might want to split the 1990-present class into 1990-2000, 2000+ class. And definatly add a tuner class.

I thank you for all your help. I will try to make the best that I can! I did however try a tuner class last year and noone showed. I marked the heck out of the show last year to many many tuners and still noone. I will see I think I could make the euro a tuner class.

Lets open this discussion up again …

Let’s say you have a show with +500 cars … What do you do with the 2001 – present class? This class is going to keep getting bigger and bigger (as the boomers retire and buy their new age dream?).

    Here are some options:

    1. 2001 – present are show only (I would hate to see it like the Automotion where it is just 1989 and older); that way you can keep your car count up and allow them to be in the show (for most of these cars you would have to take it down to counting blades of grass on the tires and if the logos on the wheels line up while judging them).

    2. 2001 – present modified mustang (if your car fits this class you will be in it; which includes Roush Mustangs).

    3. 2001 – present

    4. ???

    What are some other options?

Good topic. Depending on the number of cars it could be broken up by Mustangs, Mopar’s and Camaro’s. And you could do modified and stock in each of those classes. It seems that the great majority of the new Mustangs at shows are the special editions.

I agree with Eclipse Tuner on splitting the 90-present class as long as you think the turnout will warrant it, I’ve also seen a class for “sport compact” that would probably cover a lot of tuner vehicles.

The survivor class, take what pardeeville did.
Survivors must be classed in Exterior, Interior
and Engine with 100% in 2 of the 3 classes and
must be 20 years or older. I might that that
    to 30 years and older.

Did you have your show yet? If not where and when is it?
If you did how did the classes go?
