While it’s sad to see another business/dealership close, they had a chance to work with GM and chose not to. They don’t have a lot of employees left working there, I hope everyone is able to rebound.

A south side Madison business will close its doors in July.

Thorstad Automotive, formally Thorstad Chevrolet, told employees and customers the news on Friday.

In 2009, General Motors cut ties with thousands of its outlets across the U.S. including Thorstad Chevrolet.

GM’s agreement allowed Thorstad to continue selling its Chevy franchise until October 2010.

On Friday, the Thorstads posted this letter on the company’s website at http://www.thorstad.com:

    To our customers and friends,

It is with great sadness that we must inform you that Thorstad Automotive will be closing July 8th, 2011.

Our business was designed for high volume, expert care, franchise sales, service, fleet, and parts operations. The loss of these has proven too difficult on our structure.

We are so grateful to the many thousands of people who have come here over the years, and especially appreciative to the many who have been so supportive over the last one. Your touching comments and letters have meant the world to us.

For 46 years our people have worked to be among the best in their fields, and we are so proud of what they’ve done, continue to do, and will go on to do at other places. We will give honest, expert advice and service until the day our doors close because our people are the best in their fields.

Please feel free to stop in with a question, or buy some tires, have a problem looked at, get a great deal on a used car, or just say hi. Our incredible people are willing to help.

    Thank you, so very much.

    The Thorstad’s

That is too bad, they have been in business a long time. Like you said though they had an opportunity to work with GM.

I gave them 6 months when there contract with GM was up Last October… I called that one.

If they would’ve built out in Middleton 10+ years ago like GM wanted, they would still be in business today.
