Who else here likes scifi? (I know you do darth paris)
What shows do you like and why?
Personally I like all Star Trek, Farscape, Babylon 5, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica.
Star Trek has been a great adventure, and the original series was such a pivitol series in terms of scifi tv.
Farscape is such a great show, so creative and moving..
Both Stargates give a more realistic sense of scifi in the sense that they take place in present day.
Babylon 5, so many things to say about it… What an amazing storyline and the characters are so real, the whole series follows how actions have consequences and we must face up to the choices that we make.
Battlestar Galactica is a different type of scifi, darker.

I grew up addicted to SF books. Blakes 7 was my 1st real TV experience with SF although I had been a Dr Who fan for some time. I fell head over heels for Orac, the fussy but portable super computer with the broad accent and Zen, the droll ship’s computer. Star Wars was fun but I was not that impressed. It was movies like Logan’s Run, Dark Star, Silent Running and Saturn 3 that I really enjoyed. The original BSG movie really blew my socks off, and I was hooked on the TV series. Buck Rodgers, although a little silly, had some great plots too. I guess it was Alien that really took my breath away for the 1st time. Much later, Bab 5 was a revelation!

I don’t like SG, I hate Farscape (Muppet’s in Space, I call it – sorry Gari), and FireFly left me cold. The ST TV franchise is quite good, although I prefer the original series over the others and find all the ST movies disappointing except The Wrath of Karn.

Right now I’m enjoying BSG. The next season looks fantastic.

BSG is fantastic, as was B5!!! Did you read any of Ray Bradbury’s scifi stories?

Sure. I read my 1st Bradbury when I was 6 (451) and remember it still. I liked how his writing style was down to earth but his ideas were really “out there”. My favorite of his is a short story about children on a planet where it never rains, but one time it does.

One book of his that I remember in particular was called “The Man”, have you read it? It was about these two astronauts who landed on a planet where all the people were saying a great man had just been there. They later find out that it was in fact Jesus. One man tries to catch up to him by hopping back into the spaceship, only to keep searching and never find him because in fact Jesus was still there on the planet. An interesting idea for a story
