Absolutely yes. Let’s grow the hobby, not snobberize it.

I wonder how many of those people will think twice about returning next year? Isn’t the idea to improve participation and not to damage feelings?
Another example of participant voting hurting a show.
jonmandudeParticipantI agree with the asian/euro classes as a starting point. Year qualifications should really depend on who shows (see other thread on trophies). Now we divide muscle cars up into many classes (years, stock, modified), tuners need the same thought process. A 5 year old car may have much done to it, but a 15-20 year old car has had to be more restored as well as modified. There aren’t many 20 year old imports that have been saved to become classics later in life, like many of the Boss Mustangs or Hemi Mopars were.
I personally am not a fan of any car that is less than 2 years old being included in a show. I am not a fan of purchasing a new car and showing it. But that is my view, nothing more. Most shows are providing a “Modern Muscle” class or placing these cars in a “Special Interest” class, yet they are reluctant to include import classes.
jonmandudeParticipantI agree that 1 trophy per every 5 cars is a good ratio for larger shows. But maybe a 1 per 3 would be a good ratio for smaller shows (say under 100 cars)
I don’t think you can really hurt by having too many trophies. It makes people feel appreciated. Giving out 5 trophies in a class can diminish the value of a trophy. But let’s face it, a trophy is a piece of plastic that has more appreciation than value. It makes someone feel appreciated for their hard work. I don’t think it is a bad idea to appreciate more people, rather than leave people out.

Been to that show for the last 3 years, and have been fortunate to not blow up my engine on the ride home the last 2 years  Its a nice drive up thru Dodgeville and Spring Green. Sunday we’re (the gf and I) taking the day off to relax, been doing a lot of 2-day shows the past few weeks and after Blanchardville I dragged a$$ all day today. Plus I need to get caught up on my NASCAR.May try to head to the cruise night at [strike]Rev Jims[/strike] Culvers Tuesday night weather permitting.
I know how you feel about dragging tail. I was falling asleep at the WIANG show. Not because the show was not enjoyable, but because I have been burning the candle at both ends lately.
Culvers tonight is a definite probable (weather permitting).
jonmandudeParticipantImport classes need to be included. It is part of the car scene today. The days of year limitations needs to end if the hobby is to continue growing. It is a new way of modifying cars and is entering the musclecar ranks with the resto-mods. I think show judges should become more knowledgeable about the newer cars and styles. There is a growing interest in classic japanese imports on the west coast and it will only be a matter of time before that grows to a more national level. As the imports get more welcome in shows those classes will have to be broken up and developed as the pre-74 years have. There will need to be classes for japanese and european imports and classes for restored and modified and well. We could also get into the styles of modifying like VIP.
I guess I am annoyed by the car hobby not embracing all styles and makes. It is a hobby about the love of cars, ALL CARS. It should never be an exclusive hobby or a hobby that decides for us what is acceptable. Our cars are an extension of our personality and each is and should continue to be as different and diverse as we are.
jonmandudeParticipantI must say that is a sound breakdown. I cannot see where anyone would have a problem with a show judged that way.
jonmandudeParticipantWell put eclipsetuner. When I attend a show with my import, I find it a little frustrating to have my 20 year old car be in a class with store bought cars that are only a few years old, or in some cases a few days old. To me it says one of two things, either that the organizer doesn’t really understand the import scene or that the imports are not really welcome.
jonmandudeParticipantI did the Tasting Room event today. Kind of a disappointment from a car person standpoint. There was no parking reserved and the event was about cigars and only cigars. I did see a few people stop in with nice cars. The ’59 Austin-Healy bug-eyed Sprite was so damn cool.
From a cigar lover point of view, it was absolutely amazing. I have been to a few cigars events and they are usually the same old boring “our cigars are made this way” and “our cigars are better than the others because…” this was not. Yes it was about a particular brand of cigar, but it was more of an offering of their particular cigar. It was nice to meet THE person that came up with this certain cigar and watch him roll cigars. He is truly an artist.
I do applaud the owner of The Tasting Room and the people from NUB Cigars for trying something different. It is nice to see someone outside of the car hobby actually try.
jonmandudeParticipantI will be at the Tasting Room thing on Thursday. i know some of you mentioned that you are not interested in anything to do with smoking. Me, I enjoy a good cigar, so it is perfect for me.
jonmandudeParticipantVery nice and very different. I think I have to agree with lilwillie on this. I would not do it myself. It is kind of like that Nissan RB26 powered Mustang from F&F Tokyo Drift.
I guess it didn’t meet the reserve after 41 bids got it to $166,800.00. I think maybe they want too much?
jonmandudeParticipantlooks like a great event. Makes me want a VW
jonmandudeParticipantNothing again for me this weekend. I would love to do the Beaver Dam show, but I still have the Dynamat to do and then a heater core and then install the new carpet. Looks like a long day for me on Sunday. :S
jonmandudeParticipantI have seen them, and Charger R/T’s with the R/T striping, and even a Ford F150 pickup that was gray with a topper.
jonmandudeParticipantNothing for me for a couple weeks. Just got new carpet today. So I am going to dynamat the whole interior and change the heater core before I install a new rug.
