California Chrome was a $10,000 horse, racing against million dollar thoroughbreds. The “experts” said that the owner was a fool to buy, and the horse would never win. Also the owners are not wealthy megamillionaires, they are working class guys who pooled their retirements and savings to buy the horse based on their own research and hopes.
jonmandudeParticipantI see both sides of the argument. It isn’t fair that a horse has to compete in all three races to win the triple crown against horses that are fresh and rested. But the flip side is that other horses that have won the triple crown had to as well. It is part of what makes the triple crown so hard to attain
jonmandudeParticipantnever seen that 71 base model Challenger convertible before
jonmandudeParticipantAlso this for the Mopar guys and gals
http://www.moparsinthepark.com/jonmandudeParticipantI am sorry if that seems harsh and or angry. I have been called an asshole to my face from this and been called classless among other things in emails. All because some cars got dusty or someone didn’t get a trophy that they thought they deserved
For years I did the QSL cruise night and constantly had to answer questions of “why is that car in here?” Or “I can go to the dealer and see cars like that”..I am fed up with the attitude of someone thinking they’re special.
It is ironic that so many BUY a car, take it to shows, and take credit for someone else’s efforts and then expect to be treated special or don’t respect someone else because they don’t do what they want. So many show their cars to feed their ego and then get upset that someone doesn’t look at their car or reward their car or worse yet the wrong person looks at their car. God forbid some little kid finds their car interesting and touches it. What is happening to people? I thought this hobby was one to bring joy to ourselves and others. Why do so many bitch and moan if things aren’t the way they expect it to be? If you are so worried about your car being touched or getting a little dirty or whatever, stay home, keep it in a box, and don’t let anyone see it…oh wait then no one can tell you how cool your car is. geeez
sorry..rant over
jonmandudeParticipantI cannot thank everyone who came out to this enough, I also cannot apologize enough for the conditions.. It is never good to have dust at a car show. I understand anyone who was upset and sympathize. I have 5 cars to wash this week.
Besides the dust. I think it was a successful day. It was a nice variety of very nice cars. A tremendous amount of foot traffic. Good food everywhere, live music, and it was free.
I spoke with Tim Metcalfe and he seemed very pleased and also apologized for the dust. With some planning next year can be much better…and in grass. It would be nice to see a good sized show at the Alliant Center again.
Thank you all
jonmandudeParticipantwe will try to allow as many as we can. The space that is set aside for us is smallish, that is why we went with the 50. I have asked for more parking for people that cruise in to have separated parking too. I don’t think it will be an issue. The ones pre-registered will be judged and be the only ones that can receive trophies, but all are welcome.
I know for many Memorial Day weekend is spent with family or out cruising around, so that is why I suggested a show and a cruise-in. Those who want to show all day can be judged and those who simply want to stop in for a bit and then leave as they wish can do that as well. I hope it works out. It is something new.
BTW the trophies were created tonight by Jeff Stone and myself. They are truly unique and and hopefully will be well received. They kids choice is probably over $10K worth of race car parts. And each trophy has moving parts
jonmandudeParticipantZac!! Dammit you are a Mopar guy. You know darn well that a Cuda is In Violet, not Plum Crazy.
But seriously, that car was beautiful. My new favorite was a 66 (?) Mustang fastback. Amazing car
jonmandudeParticipantIt was a nice show and a perfect day. I second the bathrooms. I think they had portajohns last year? And trash cans…Could have been a few thru-out the lot. Would have been nice to not have to walk to throw away trash.
I won’t complain about the price and trophies. I got a T-shirt and the money does go to help the program.
I think the cars that did get trophies were very deserving. I know I wouldn’t have wanted to judge this show. It seemed every class had 2-3 cars that were equally impressive.
jonmandudeParticipantIf you have been on their facebook page, it looks like it will be a BIG turnout
jonmandudeParticipantQSL wanted to start last week (so I have been told) but the weather was not considerate. This week looks iffy as well. But on the upside, this weekend looks good
jonmandudeParticipantyep
jonmandudeParticipantOk, It took our IT guy a bit to get it off and running (pesky races) but here it is. This link will get you to a sign up for the show
Here is a link to all that is scheduled for that day

jonmandudeParticipantIt presents itself very well. But I think $24K+ for a “Super Bee 440 clone” is a stretch. Not a big stretch. I would think $18K-$20K-ish would be correct
jonmandudeParticipantWOW!! That is amazing.
