See You Down The Road

After many years serving the classic car community, Wisconsin Collector Car will be shutting down at the end of 2024. Thank you for all of the car show memories!

Darrow’s C-D-J ads remind me of those old Steamberg Homes commercials that used to air on WGN when I was a kid.

Anytime I see those Ballweg ads with Darlene Ballweg, I always expect her to hop a broom and fly away at the end. Her voice alone gives me the piss shivers.

Thorstad Automotive… I don’t give them a year. Especially after the incident I had over there yesterday

I am annoyed by any ad for Russ Darrow Kia that’s on the radio. The latest “Hans and Franz” ad makes me want to run over a litter of newborn puppies. Whoever they hired to run there ad marketing department should be replaced with Brad Childress

Why build a train no one wants? Doyle got smart. Quit trying to force something on the people of your state that they don’t want. One minute you guys are bitching about your property taxes going up, then you are bitching because the train is shot down… a train project that would bring a .5% increase on YOUR taxes.

Walker has a good plan, and the majority of the state agrees (hence how the votes played out).

If participant judged shows went the way of Jesus Built My Hot Rod, that style of judging would be perfectly fine. You only vote in certain classes, and you don’t vote in your own.

Having judges that are points judging and know what they are doing is also a plus. Some judges have no clue about the automobile in general.

It doesn’t matter to me, I’m thinking of attending non-judged shows next year and/or shows that benefit charities or organizations that contribute back to the community or a certain group like MDA.

Now the Eco-Nazi liberals can water there rain gardens with there own tears

The GOP has talked the talk, let them walk the walk. IMO the country won’t be run worse than it has been. I understand having money in your pocket makes one an evil, rich, racist Republican but c’mon. All these “for the people” democrats don’t have there checkbooks out to open businesses or create jobs.

It felt good to start my day with a straight-ticket Republican vote.

I also voted down the train, voted down MATC getting $133M, and voted down enything else that would currently cost more money.

It is a case where a voter has to choose who they believe is the lesser of two evils. I’ve always felt Herb Kohl has done a good job in his position as Senator even though he is a Democrat. Kohl is in touch with the people of WI… Feingold is more outspoken, but Johnson will give him a fight.

An aquiantance of mine had issues getting a Hobbyist plate. He applied for it last spring and got it about a month ago. With the hobbyist plate, he had to send in photo’s and descriptions of all modifications on his vehicle.

I have yet to transfer my collector plate. I don’t forsee any problems unless you are trying to get a plate for a modified vehicle, which is DMV’s way of keeping certain vehicles off the road IMO.

A few questions about the car shows in 2010:

Favorite Show – Out of all of the shows I attended, I would have to say my favorite show was the Jesus Built My Hot Rod show in Janesville. This is a well run show with no pressure, and its for a good cause, which is to raise money for a house of worship.

Least Favorite Show – QSL. I hate the overpriced food, the bar staff always seems to have an attitude, they don’t promote car night as much as they do bike night, and its always the same people with the same cars in the same cliques. Its a half hour one-way for me to get there, and I can’t say I had a good time any time I was at QSL this year.

Most annoying trend at this year’s shows – The old guy from Monticello that cheats to get a trophy. At the Armory, he wrote down he was from Monticello, IA to win the farthest distance award. Same dude left the Oregon show because the awards were plaques and not trophies… How did he think he would even win an award?? 3D Sound still needs to do some employee turn-over, I’m tired of the same old, same old with them.

Biggest disappointment this year – The weather. It was either raining to beat hell or blistering hot.

Best new trend at shows – Survey cards. That gives each person the chance to privately rate that show, and it doesn’t spill into a pissing match on WCC.

Did you attend as many shows as the previous year? – Not sure. I don’t keep track.

Will you attend more or less shows next year? – Less. I’m tired with car shows, and frankly I’m glad the season is over. Next year I’m thinking of attending Automotion, and shows that either my entry fee will go to a good cause or non-judged shows. I’ve learned alot about myself, and one thing is that I am proud of my car no matter how nice it is or isn’t. I worked for it, I paid for it, I drive it, and I enjoy it. I have nothing to prove, and I am not a status symbol.

Would you rather attend a cruise-in or a car show? – I would rather attend a cruise in. No awards, no judging, just a place to drive in, check out some cars, and leave when I want. I enjoy the Monroe cruise ins during the month of July.

What are your overall impressions of this year’s shows? I had fun for the most part, but I’ve had some lifestyle changes that effected how I enjoy shows. By the end of the season, I wasn’t enjoying myself and thinking about the other things I could be doing. I went to a few new shows and I can’t say anything bad about them, but I went to a few shows that are established and wasn’t impressed with some changes that were made. That’s the bricks I guess.

The Packers are over-rated every year. Ted Thompson’s philosophy of “Draft & Develop” works about 49% of the time. And at that, the players he develops aren’t anything to brag about (Aaron Rodgers).

People can say what they want, but GB should’ve kept Favre, and traded for Randy Moss when they had the chance. You mark my words, Favre and Moss will be untouchable in Minnesota the rest of the season.

    Favre’s last season, BTW :(

The judging at this show was absolutely terrible last year. I always enjoy the my drive to Reedsburg, but after the shenanigans last year between the judging, an 08 Challenger winning BOS, and the head honcho coming on here trying to be a cyber bully – I went to Edgerton.

I may check out this shindig at the Back Bar in JVL on Sunday, weather permitting. I know a few guys down that way that will probably attend it.
