Russ Feingold, the largest anti-war political piece of used toilet paper in politics today (with his friends Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi).

This guy voted against the patriot act, enough said.

    Political rant switch ON.

    Liberal’s run the show.

Democrats are the most tolerant people until you disagree with them. They do not want your gas guzzling vehicles and they do not want this city to be car-friendly. The left over, vietnam war protesting hippies in the city goverment/professors at the UW expect everyone to ride a bike or a skateboard. I have no problems with being “green” when it comes to building/living in efficient housing, vehicles that produce better fuel mileage, or stating your opinions. But, when the meatheads who have say of what goes on there try to force you into becoming a dirty, peace loving flower picker who doesn’t bathe because you don’t want the lake water to get dirty, it is a Nazi regime all over again.

If I lived in Madison (thank god I never will) and could vote there, Ray Allen would have my vote in an instant.

Ok, political rant switch off. wave.gif

The Mopar rollercoaster was back again (insert smiley of me blowing Craig Jackson’s brains out dontknow.gif ). Some cars went high like the $300k superbird…and some went low compared to market values such as a 70 440+6 ‘Cuda that got $74k. Overall prices leveled out once again, some people made out like bandits and some lost there cheeks on cars.

I like the idea of cruise nights on the west side. East towne is quite the hike from mt. horeb on a weekly basis.

Does anyone know got the notion to start this, was it QSL’s idea? I know they’ve had car events there before.

Would you ever consider buying a car off of ebay or another online place (ie paying a professional to inspect it first), or would you want to make a visual inspection yourself?

I would look at it before bidding. If it was too far away, I would hire someone with a good reputation to look at it and inspect it for me.

I sold two of my cars on ebay last year. Both sales went well, both cars were bought sight unseen (except for the pictures) and both buyers were extremely pleased with the cars!

GM – 1987 Chevy Monte Carlo SS. I had three of these cars and although they weren’t the fastest out-of-the-box car, they always started every day and never gave me any grief. I was lucky enough that the two I had w/305’s never ate the lobes off the camshafts either.

Ford – 1968 Fastback Mustang. It’s what my Dad had when he was in high school, bought it brand new in the height of the “Bullitt” movie. His was identical to the one Steve McQueen drove.

Mopar – 1968-1970 Dodge Chargers, and 1970-1974 Plymouth ‘Cuda’s. I know your only supposed to choose one, but I’m biased when it comes to Mopars…and that’s what I own.

You might be OK if your INS. Co. says that you can drive it around. If ever pulled over, say you are going to a cruise night or your a just driving. You really aren’t using the car as a daily driver.

I have mine insured with State Farm. They have a great plan for collector cars where there is no driving limitations, and the vehicle is insured for full appraisal price.

Attendance doesn’t change much for the shows in and around Madison, but I have noticed that some shows where they depend on travelers from far away have hurt with attendance…especially since gas prices rose over $3 a gallon. It doesn’t stop me from driving mine, but not always the case with other enthusiasts.

The big thing that hurts shows is poor judging. Judging will make or break a show. Most shows around here are judged quite fair. Two years ago I went to the all-makes Don Miller show hosted by the GTO club (no offense meant to GTOman) but a ’92 corvette won best of show. The following year I attended without my car but the same ’92 vette won best of show again! That’s gonna ruin that show, there was a lot of pissed off people both spectators and entrants.

I think you need to be very careful about any car you buy whether it is at a dealer or not… They are in it to make money. Volo is a fun place to go and look at some cars.

I agree 100%. I, myself, like to know as much history about a car I’m purchasing as I can, not only does it make me feel more comfortable about buying something, but I have the story to go with it. There is a lot of very reputable collector car brokers out there, but there is also a lot of crooks too. No matter what you buy (from a broker or a private party) there will be some amount of work involved whether its personal customization or minor repairs.

When I was looking to buy my first Dodge Charger, I almost bought one from Volo-a ’70 383 auto car. It was nice and had paperwork with it. I didn’t buy this one, however I was close. But this was before the muscle car market got out of control too.

What shop do you work for?

I fill in at House of Horsepower, along with my full time job for a local Chevrolet dealership. Soon I will be starting an appraisal business appraising collector cars for what they’re worth, not what people have paid. I figure it’s time to get someone in the area who is fair and has no problems telling a customer they overpaid if such a case were to occur.

    Back to the Volo story…

Last summer, a good friend of mine bought what he thought was a very good investment Mopar. He bought this without me looking at it, and taking the word of Volo that the car was real. It was not a numbers matching engine (which he did know before the sale) but was supposed to be a numbers car. The stamps on the core support, cowl, and the trunk under the weatherstrip matched the VIN. These parts can be replaced on to other cars with the help of a skilled body man, often what I refer to as a “re-bodied” car. There is no problem with this, or a “clone” as long as you aknowledge it during a sale. This was a beautiful #1 car, and it did win at many shows.

It was at a Mopar show where contraversy first sparked. Many in our community (Mopar people, that is) spoke of this car a clone. About a week later I looked at the car, and found two things in the first two minutes I didn’t like. There was no documentation with the vehicle, so I immediately recommend that he call Galen Govier. Galen inspected the car and found that it was pieced together from many different Mopar vehicles by stamping numbers on the parts.

In the end, Volo bought the car back. They had it on consignment for the owner who fought him the whole way. Numbers don’t lie.

I was along on the trip to deliver the car back to Volo, the last words were “Can we keep this quiet?” and “Tell Galen that we made it right with you.”

I visit there website occasionally, just to see what they have. However, I recommend to anyone thinking of buying a car from Volo to check it out to the fullest and have your own appraiser appraise the vehicle prior to the sale.

    $200 to find out a car isn’t worth $200,000 isn’t a bad loss, where $200,000 out on a $50,000 car is.

Volo is EVIL!!! They sell cars that are not real and don’t do there homework before they take the sale on!! I have had many of my customers give negative feedback about dealing with Jay and Brian Grams. I went there a few times myself, I wasn’t impressed with a lot that I saw, I wasn’t impressed that they overbid all there appraisals, and the cars that do have documentation they still want more than market value!!!

Marshall ~ the money is to cover the associated costs with this show, including keeping the buses off State Street for the day.

I can’t believe they have to pay for that! I wonder what it costs for Halloween to keep the buses off the street for a weekend…Probably nothing since the city gets revenue from that. This show won’t turn out well, the city council will only pick Volkswagen Beetles, Ford Pinto’s and any other fuel effeicent vehicles from before 1979. Madison don’t want gas guzzlers period. I’m suprised the guy who went to the city council meeting didn’t have to jump thru a million hoops just to get it ok’d.

The guy who puts this on came to the roadapples meeting last night. He doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. $15 is insane for a registration to some rinky dink car show. Blanchardville don’t charge that much! The Dells does if you don’t preregister but they get a lot of cars and it’s a two day event. I like the idea of a car show, but if it’s not WOW you shouldn’t have to send a picture and let them choose you, that takes the fun out of it. It’s just another ploy by the liberals who run that city to pick and choose what they want. I prolly won’t be there either.
