Eclipse_TunerParticipant
My biggest complaint about that weekend isn’t the shows or the people at the shows, its the huge influx of people (mainly younger) that come in and flood the streets. I’ve noticed that most of this crowd don’t really attend any of the shows, so moving or eliminating the shows that do exist probably won’t solve much.
I’ve shown at the BOTI, WCEC, Mt Olympus shows and while they were enjoyable (except for WCEC), I have no interest in going to the Dells that weekend. To me it is simply not worth the risk to my build.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantEclipse_TunerParticipantUpdate: There are about 10 calendars left.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantI will have the last batch of calendars with me at the Pardeeville car show on Saturday. If you want one, just look for my chameleon and black 370Z and I should be close by. $15 each.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantThanks guys, orders are updated and shipped out.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantHurray, they are in stock and I will have them at various car shows and they can be found here:
Eclipse_TunerParticipantGood news…The calendar has been released to the printers. I should have them available in 2 weeks.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantWhat did you see this year that you liked and disliked at car shows?
It was a pretty “meh” year. Nothing really jumped out good or bad. I did like shows that were more than just a show, as those are getting boring. Shows that were tied to a bigger event or that had more going on were fun (EMF show in IL, CarCraft Summer Nats, Woodward, Optima USCA).What new shows did you attend?
EMF Show, CarCraft Summer Nats, Wekfest. What shows did you not attend, but would like to next year?
Silk was unable to put on a show this year, but Im working on changing that for next year. Would also like to attend the original Symco show (not the one in Oshkosh). What shows will you not attend next year, or ever again?
I might skip Pardeeville next year. Its a great show, but it is making for too long of a day. What would you like to see different for 2017?
We have a million basic car shows and they pretty much are the same…I would like to see shows differentiate themselves. Or I would like to see more shows tied to other community or industry events.Eclipse_TunerParticipantThat is a fantastic little article and is a theme my editors have discussed this year as well.
I wonder if that is why we are seeing a rise in “car meets” and slow growth in “car shows”?
Eclipse_TunerParticipantHere’s my Automotion, even though it was only for Saturday.
Got to the Dells around 9am, no traffic. I attended the Mt. Olympus show this year. The show itself was a pretty fun event as there were a lot of things to watch such as the dyno comps, burnout/drift pit, and hydraulic/lowrider expo, and good club djs. It was also nice because we could take our 3 yr old into the park so he could swim and ride go karts for a bit.
This year they changed things up a bit to try to get people to stay later rather than flood the streets all at once. Awards were pushed back to 6:30 and then the stunt riding demos and other things went on until about 9pm. The crowd at the show was a very mixed bag of backgrounds and ages, as were the vehicles, however attendance was down compared to last year most likely due to the large show at the Wilderness. As for behavior, at the show it was pretty laid back and was not wild at all.
I left after awards to check out the few other shows and noticed something that I dont think people have mentioned but Zac and a few other attendees hinted at: The majority of the “idiots” that were driving around in trucks and crap cars didnt attend any of the shows. From what I saw and discussed with show runners was that those of us who have put time into building nice rides are rarely the ones screwing around. If you have been to the Dells for opening weekend, the drunkenness and wild shenanigans are almost the same as what it is for Automotion weekend.
Personally, I see no problem on having multiple shows in town that day (aside from the traffic volume). It gives people options and variety especially since each of the 5 shows were completely different in what they offered. Yes it sucks that some people get waaaay out of hand (and its not just the young crowd to blame). But there is also a lot of good going on too with the shows.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantIll be covering the weekend for DrivingLine magazine and will be entering the Mt Olympus show. If the day (more specifically the idiots and traffic) is like last year, this will be my last time attending…just not worth the risk.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantThanks. Yes I will be doing more this season: Carcraft Summer Nationals, Optima Search For The Ultimate Street Car event at Road America, and a general article highlighting the standout events or cars of the Midwest.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantThey did have a good crowd every day, even Sunday. I was displaying in the Meguiar’s booth.
I was also covering the event for DrivingLine magazine. You can find my article and photo gallery here:

Eclipse_TunerParticipantIm on the fence about that weekend as well. The Mt Olympus show was fun since it was something different, but the complete cluster of the Dells makes me really hesitant to go again.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantThe car show at Silk Madison is Sunday as well. Ill see if I have the flyer to post.
