GunnerParticipantDid anyone else, besides me, question the “long distance award” or “who drove the greatest distance to get to this show” award. Did I hear correctly that it went to someone who claimed to have driven from Colorado? I don’t know how they did it, but they must of been hauling a** to get from Colorado to Pardeeville in a reasonable amount of time.
Come on here, let’s get real. Nobody wakes up at dark thirty and drives from Colorado to Pardeeville to attend the car show.
If this is a Pardeeville award, maybe that one needs to be reworked because I know we had cars and trucks from Iowa and Illinois and Michigan and Minnesota that actually got up at dark thirty and drove to the Pardeeville Car Show. In all fairness, this could have been a “Wisconsin Hot Rod Radio” award and the winner picked by the DJ’s.
GunnerParticipantI’ve seen the phrase used occasionally on car show flyers, but I’ve never bothered to think about what it might exactly mean. Before this discussion was started, I thought it applied to alcohol (beer) and not soda or water. I say that because of several events that appear to make major money on the sale of alcohol (Fox Lake and Beloit Autorama, for example). I never thought that it would apply to soda or water, especially for those who are showing cars.
I have always carried a cooler in my car that is stocked with water and ice. I would go broke at a car show if I had to buy my cold water at the event and spend a lot of time going back and forth to get it, and a lot less time on cleaning up the car.
I would submit that this is a case of “rules are meant to be broken”. Not to hijack this thread, but what about the rule of “dogs not allowed” at this event or “dogs not allowed” at this car show. Have you even gone to any car show and not seen dogs during the show? Usually, they are brought in by spectators, but has this rule ever been enforced, anywhere?
GunnerParticipantThanks to you and everyone else on Jim and Vicki’s crew for making this a “must attend” car show every year!
My award and reward for this year’ show was a whole Amish made Apple pie, which I bought at the end of the show, and is currently safe in my home refrigerator!
I left before the awards were completed. I would be curious to know who won the Best of Show awards.
GunnerParticipantGTO Man wrote:It was a disappointing day. I made it to within 3 blocks of the show with my GTO Judge by 8:30am. The temperature gauge showed 250 degrees so I pulled over to the curb on Lake Street. After determining that the water pump was leaking and close to going out completely I called Hagerty to have it flat-bedded back to Madison. The car and I were back in Madison by 1:30pm or so.Overall, were you satisfied with the Hagerty’s service? Did they dispatch a rollback out of Madison or somewhere closer? Sorry to hear of your bad lucl.

GunnerParticipantIsn’t it unfortunate that many of us feel like we need to stay close to our vehicles during a show, in order to prevent unwanted scrapes or scratches or prevent people from opening the doors or leaning?
Over the years, at one show which will remain unnamed but happens twice a year, I have had unwanted belt buckle scrapes put on my doors from people leaning in the windows and checking out the interior. I’ve had people putting their hands on chrome engine components. For the life of me, I don’t why its necessary to touch chrome engine pieces. Nowadays, at this particular show, I roll the windows up, lock the doors and do not open my trunk lid or engine cover. I’ve still gone home with unwanted scrapes and scratches.
GunnerParticipantIt didn’t go away. I have a flyer for this show. The show is Saturday, August 29th, from 8AM – 4PM at VFW Post 8483, 5737 Hwy CV, Madison. Hope this info is helpful.
