I wish I could’ve been there to help the club, but instead I had to repo some heirloom’s from a family member for my Grandma.
Rachel, you have no idea how hard it was for me to not go up there and spend my day with two Hooter’s girls…
moparkid25ParticipantEven though I don’t care for that show or the people that run it, I will say that is a pretty stand-up thing to do. Most shows would’ve moved on to the next car in line.
moparkid25ParticipantThis show has the potential to be a great show. It is an awesome location, a fun drive to and from, but its run by a bunch of people who always say they are going to change the classes and train there judges…. But nothing ever changes!! I quit going to this show because of poor judging. They still get a good turnout, and that’s the object, but with how many people they have pissed off over the years its amazing people still attend.

Going to try to make SP on saturday, we’ll see how my home projects pan out.

The River Haven Homeless Shelter, The Columbia County Humane Society, The Portage Food Pantry, The Portage High School Band Department, and we also asked for help for a sponsor of ours that lost her business to a total loss fire, FLIRT. These charities were all posted and announced at the show. We appreciate everyone that donated, because we SUPPORT our local community. Portage is our home for the show and we will contiue to support Portage. This is why I like attending shows that benefit a charity, it gives back to the community.
moparkid25Participantradicalrods wrote:As the Promotions Manager for the Cruzin’ Portage Car and Truck Show, I feel it my duty to give my thoughts on the show. First and foremost, I respect all opinions and constructive critisizm, but we ARE and not-for -profit show. Our charities were announced many times. We also had a talk about the DJ requesting tips and that will be addressed. The charities were actually listed on the bags we were requesting money for. We also make sure that the money does go to the charities listed. The charities were not listed on the flier because we had many requests for help and we chose the charities closer to the show.
Now, about the judging. We do the take a row and go because have any of you tried to send one person to find all the cars in one class and judge them? When the cars are parked as they come in, the classes are separated and it is almost impossible to make sure every car is judged. We have a good group of judges that are all car enthusiasts and fair. The comment about the Chevys winning, well, there were a lot of them and there were numerous classes that had all makes covered. Was the Ferrarri noticed? There is no bias towards makes, sometimes it just works out that way. The BIG trophy winners were NOT local cars. The Best of Show car came from Eau Claire and the Police Chief award went to a car from New London. This year they just happened to be “feature cars” but that does not make the only determination on the winners. We also had a lot of perfect scores and it was the toughest year so far picking the top prizes.
There was a little confusion at the time of Trophy handout, but I think that I explained what happened and the true winners in that one class DID recieve the trophy they deserved. It was a clerical error and I made sure the cars were in the right class. I was trying to add a little humor about the retractable, and it WAS in the correct class. We know that not everyone is happy with the competion in their classes, but we are not going to MAKE anyone put their car in any certain class when it might fit in more than one. You know your car and we try to make sure it is fair for everyone. Each year we check our classes for numbers and try to adjust them the best we can. This year we had 2 classes with no cars that had 4 cars each last year. We can’t control who comes to the show. We are doing our best with the classes.
We do value everyones opinions, and we will address them as best as we can. Constructive critisizm is always welcome, but please make sure it is constructive. We put our hearts and souls, blood , sweat and tears in this show and want it to be the best show you ever attend and we will continue to grow the best we can.I totally forgot about the DJ trying to get his paper during the show. I said to my partner in crime, “Kinda ballsy asking for tips when you play s*** like this for music!” Now, if he would’ve cranked up some Motley Crue, KISS, Megadeth, hell even some Bon Jovi – I’ve would’ve considered the tip. Obviously that’s not really car show music, but let’s change it up for once
I sent you a PM with my personal info, I’d like copies of our judging sheets. I stand by my comment regarding the judges, and will either retract it or set it in stone once I see my judging sheets. I know what my cars are, I’m a realist, I want to see how it was judged.
I was a bit put off about the donations for the bridal shop fire, and I ask one question: Why did the property owner not have insurance? Since when can you get a mortgage without insurance? The facts are not all in on this disaster yet, and there’s questions to be answered. Not trying to be an asshole about it, but from what I saw in the news reports the fire situation just seems fishy… I hope it all works out in the end for the people, because I hate seeing old buildings destroyed. They add a lot of character to the towns we all live in (unless you live in Verona, where everything is new  )
All criticsm is constructive, isn’t it?
moparkid25Participantjlgray wrote:I think they need to re-think their class(maybe look at the road apples show), some of the classes seemed to not have many cars, and some of the classes seemed to overlap alittle in my thought. Also if you are going to have classes, be more strict on what cars go into the class.
i think a pick-up won in the stock car class, another ended up in the import class when it clearly wasn’t, and yes a ford skylinner is a convertible, from the announcer at award time “we wern’t sure what class to put you in, i guess we got you in the right class” after giving him the trophy. I think judging was a joke, maybe it was just my imagination but it seemed like if it weasn’t a chevy you were going to have a hard time winning, they came by mine and several others i saw, made a quik lap around it, and off to the next one. I don’t know how many judges they had but I personly don’t care for the “take a row and judge it” approch, you just can’t get consistant judging in a class that way. Overall I think with alittle more work on this show it could be a great show.I agree about the judging. If you weren’t driving a Chevy, your odds of winning an award were slim. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of nice cars won awards but a lot of winners beat out nicer cars. Not sure what the criteria for judging was, but it should be re-defined. Piss poor judging is why I quit going to Albany a few years ago.

moparkid25ParticipantPlanning on Oregon for Saturday, and possibly Portage on Sunday. All depends how much other stuff I get done before the weekend.
moparkid25ParticipantI was parked next to that Pontiac wagon on Day 2 of Automotion.
That ampitheatre stage is probably one of the best setups I’ve seen for an awards presentation.
June 17, 2012 at 3:34 pm in reply to: Gilbert Brown Foundation Cusom & Classic Car Show & Benefit #39993moparkid25ParticipantI’ve never been to this show, but I’ve always heard the turnout was good. I was in Pardeeville for a funeral yesterday, and on my way up I saw quite a few cars rolling through. There was also a show at Chandler Park that I saw going on as I rolled through in the funeral procession. Looks like a nice show and its cool to see the former pro ball players at events like this. My only question for Gilbert would be, “What was it like playing with #4?”
moparkid25ParticipantThose bicycles shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near State St. while this event takes place.
moparkid25ParticipantShould have parts for the car this week, so I can get it back on the road hopefully this weekend. If so, I’m going to head to the Monroe show on Saturday. Sunday is a toss up, either attend Durand, IL again or Beaver Dam. I already have to take a trip through the Fox Valley tomorrow…

Ha! I used to live a block from where this car is stored. Haven’t seen it in years!
moparkid25ParticipantMy friends’ band played Friday night, but I did not go.
