moparkid25Participantthekcarguy wrote:I agree with you all, I always ask if the show is Judged by a panel of judges or the crowd votes, for instance I got a 3 Chrysler K-cars, showroom condition, well anyways I had my fleet at the mopars on the mississipi show, I have every inch detailed, underbody engine ect…and I still got beaten by a daily driver 85 Daytona, grease ball engine, aftermarket sound system. the other K was a lebaron convertable, and its hood was not up… I think it takes the fun out of bring home hardware.
I’m very impressed at the Reedsburg show this year, friendly, the judges were strict and would ask you questions about your car. ended up taking home a second.
Lancaster is also good at judging.
Portage was great as well.
also I think cars that are not 20 years old should not be allowed…
oh I agree that fairness is lost sometimes, like at the cashton fall festival, the guy who was running the show never can place ahead of me, so what did he do? told the judges to vote my car down…I even saw it.
I wouldn’t say that this is all I do..but I do like good competition.
I too was in DBQ for that show…. A good example of why not to have participant judging.
moparkid25ParticipantAmigo2k wrote:But in the end whether it is judged or voting it is a 15 dollar plastic trophy not a Super Bowl ring …Well said.
moparkid25ParticipantWelcome to the forum.
To answer your question, I prefer being judged as opposed to being a show participant who judges. This topic was brought up not too long ago on here… Participant voting IMO is nothing more than a popularity contest. Now, if you are judged on a scale (paint, interior, engine, etc) against other cars in your class, you can see the areas where one may need to improve some on there own car to make it better. However, a judged show may not always be fair either. Sometimes one can get screwed over because of a ‘Somebody’ having a car in that class, or the judges may have a brand preference, or they outright missed something that to some would be deemed important.
But, apparently if you’re like me, you “take the car show thing way too seriously” and its “The only thing in my life.” :S
moparkid25ParticipantI get no enjoyment out of watching college football, but religiously watch the NFL every sunday. Its weird because most of your pro players come from colleges… I agree that they both are ‘financially oriented’, but college ball seems to have quite the following.
Maybe to understand it, one has to attend a big school like the UW? I did not.
moparkid25ParticipantGTO Man wrote:Looks like a cool show. Garages have become an important extension of the living area of their houses. How many have turned their garage into a multi purpose area for storing their toys and a place to relax?
My daddy let me set the garage up with indoor plumbing and a floor drain, so cars can be washed inside. Right, Paul?
moparkid25ParticipantGTO Man wrote:I thought the way that God’s Country Pontiac decided to try worked out well, though maybe the top 25 was a bit much. I do think the best of and special awards should be picked by someone other than the participants. If there are classes in a participant judged show then a limited number of classes should be judged byt the participants. And no participant should judge their own class. This is how the show in Durand, IL was done. They gave awards to the top 40 cars, then a best of show award, best paint, etc. At first I thought it was kinda dumb, but I’ve been to a couple of shows this year that have done awards this way. Its not the worst way to keep things sorta fair when it comes to awards, and it also eliminates classes.

It’s going to be a long winter for this mean-spirited SOB.
moparkid25ParticipantLook the latest CL thread here, there was a 65ish Impala in Portage on there for decent money.

I am in the market for a partially restored or turn key car. My thoughts are tied to a convertible and a GM product. My family sold GM for years in the 60’s and 70’s. I have been searching all over to locate a car across the country or locally. My first choices are Oldsmobile Cutlass, 1968-1971. Chevy Impala, 1965-1970 and a Buick same year or so. My first concern is how to locate a good vehicle to even contact the owner. Second, how to I judge the car being worthy of spending hard earned money on it. Once that is determined, where do I go for help in getting the car here, working on restoration and finally maintaining it?
Anyhow, as you can see, there are a lot of things on my mind and I am in the market now and will be ready to go at a moment’s notice if possible.
Thank you,
Mick
Welcome. Its hard to just ‘find a car and ask about buying it’ from someone who is not advertising. Word of mouth is usually a good way to find a car, especially with your introduction post above. Buying the right car to suit your needs is the next step, and it seems you have got a general idea of what you would like. As far as a restorable car, how much of a driver do want? Are you looking for a car you can get minimal things done while enjoying it? Or do you want something you can buy right and perform a full restoration on?
As far as inspecting a vehicle prior to purchase, I can assist you with that. I will send you a PM with further info. If you’re looking for cars locally, you can use craigslist and ebay, but for what you have described that you have interest in you may want to be patient and wait for the word of mouth to get around first. IIRC, GTO Man’s brother has/had a 70-71 cutlass convertible??? That may be your leading point, I would wait for him to chime in or send him a PM.

OMG, don’t get all emo up in here. We both have different opinions, that’s that.
Let me put this into a car show-esque perspective. You are DDHemi, who goes to shows soley to compete. He is a competitor, from his days of playing sports to having nice cars that win awards. He was raised to be a competitor, so therefore its his nature. These days there is no one teaching that competition is good, and that everything should be fair. If everything should be fair, should the NFL quit keeping score? If so, then you’re Packers wouldn’t win the Superbowl. The Brewers wouldn’t be in the NLCS right now. Its ok to watch competition, but not be a part of it?
If you feel like you’re not getting a fair shake from judges at car shows, then go but tell them you prefer not to be judged. Then you won’t get screwed over as you put it. I pay the reg fee, let em judge it!! Especially if it goes to a good cause, which most of the shows I attended this year and will only attend in the years to come will do. Judges are going to be bias to some level no matter what. Participant judged shows will never be 100% fair in my opinion.
If you feel that you’ve been attacked and you don’t want to be a member of this community, that’s your perogative. But don’t use me as your door mat on the way out.
moparkid25ParticipantWow….
I don’t understand why topics get locked. I understand that compared to some other car forums I’m on, this on is PG-13. IMO, you can’t take anything on the internet serious. I don’t like how my thread about the number of awards won was locked, either. I didn’t start that thread to pick on BigBlueTruck, and it wasn’t started as a contest to see who’s got the biggest stick in the yard. However, BBT started out with the “Trophy Monger” comments. Nick being the nice guy that he is, put the thread on a different spin (which I have no issues with). Some awards mean more to some than others. I think we all agree that shows that are judged can be better than participant judged shows. And not all judged shows are judged fairly. It’s also nice to go to a non-judged show and have no pressure to compete at times. But, like Dwight said, if all shows quit giving awards, door prizes, etc, then what is the catch to peak one’s interest? I don’t go to shows to win, my cars are my trophies. Yeah, they are nice when you win, because others have aknowledged the effort you have put into your car. However, I’m reminded of my efforts every time I pay license and registration
Locking threads just gives way to bad blood in person. It’s been my experience that in the end it all works out (well, except with Team Mustang. Though princess was checking me out a lot this summer…. And I gotta say, she’s got it going on. But, I’m not gonna be her back door man either  ). I’m going to lunch now, and will check out the responses when I get home tonight from league.

Keep thinking you can “Hold your own” with guys half your age.
2. DDhemi is big, and you don’t want to see his bad side. References available upon request
3. I don’t have a beef with you, if I did you would be the first to know, and you wouldn’t find out via the internet.
4. I do have problems with a few people, as some may think. In reality, I’m not afraid to voice my opinion in person or on the web.
5. Keep thinking ddhemi fights all my battles, old man. I do my own thing.
6. I enjoy new opinions on this site. What’s your feelings on Gov. Walker’s Union Busting?
I like debating. See you in the gym, Hulkster
moparkid25ParticipantBigbluetruck wrote:Its not about winning awards for me,its about being fair and treating everyone equal.Ive been in a lot of shows this year without winning a thing but i keep on plugging away at it.I had the brace on because i had 3 vertabrete fused, the brace is gone now and i am a lot tougher in person than you might think, like you said this is a puplic forum and i can voice my concerns and my opionion just like everyone else and if it doesnt agree with your way of thinking then thats to bad.I too agree that everyone should be treated equal, whether it be a car show or in everyday life. I don’t really care why you were in a back brace, actually I said that so I could put a face with the screen name and truck. I saw your truck at JVL, I drive the same truck every damn day.
As far as you being a lot tougher in person, I could give a rats ass. I’ve got a possible sprained shoulder and could still push your wheelchair down a steep hill. I love old tough guys that find the need to be the internet badass. For the Record, my old man is 61 years old, driven a truck for the last 35, and did two tours in Vietnam as a Dustoff Medic from 70-72. He’s the baddest mother I know, and the only person with an AARP card that could whip my ass.
It is a public forum, and you have the right to express your opinion. No one is telling you not to. What I’m saying is its my opinion that you get all bent out of shape when you don’t win a $10 trophy.
moparkid25ParticipantEclipse_Tuner wrote:Here’s a better question:Out of the awards you have recieved (of any year), which one(s) meant the most and why?
This year it would have to be winning at Pardeeville. Something about getting that award in my Mom’s hometown just makes me feel good. She was pretty proud of me, too, and I haven’t really done a lot in the last 30 years to make her say that
My first Blanchardville award was also a milestone.
My very first award came at Platteville in 2003, right after I got my Charger repainted.
moparkid25ParticipantRivFan is the only one on here that I know of who attends concourse shows, but he travels all over the country to Buick only events.
