Mopar,
Yes, we do need another comment on what’s going on at the Capitol.
Times are tough (newsflash!!), and we’ll all need to cut some financial corners. But trying to take away the unions’ collective bargaining rights under the guise of a budget bill is a fascist move.
I support the unions making necessary cuts in salaries and perks. But I absolutely support their rights to negotiate and, if needed, go on strike. Workers need the right to strike over issues like unsafe conditions, child labor, etc. The only reason we no longer suffer over those items is an indication that unions have worked well over the decades.
I’ve got friends in the teaching field. They gave up their contractually guaranteed salary increase several years ago, in order to maintain their health and retirement benefits. That’s right, they already made salary concessions. To take away those perks now seems disingenuous, at best.
Given that they had no other recourse over this matter, I think the Dem. Senators fleeing the state was a brilliant move. Why do you think they call it politics??
I know many of you will disagree with me. That’s OK. The reason we need to discuss our differences is so that we might be able to get along well enough to live next door to one another, and hopefully come to a decent resolution of our differences.
What I went through recently, battling DOT over my Pinzgauer title/registration, was a case of Government simply taking an action, despite overwhelming public opposition and no legal authority, to outlaw our old cars. This is the same crap. I beat their a$$es in court, and got a law passed. This union-busting effort needs to get defeated too. If it takes a court ruling, so be it.
Balance the budget, but don’t use the situation as an opportunity to steal citizens’ rights. You guys who like to own/drive your “old cars” should take a bigger interest in protecting those rights, lest you lose ’em.
Paul
I agree, thanks GTO Man..
XmanParticipantRepublican Support Not Assured For Walker’s Plan.
MADISON, Wis. — There are indications that support among Republican legislators for Gov. Scott Walker’s plan to remove collective bargaining rights for public workers might be starting to crack.
State Sen. Dan Kapanke of La Crosse told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he didn’t know where Republicans stood on the proposal that drew more than 13,000 protesters to the state Capitol on Tuesday.
When asked about the position of Republicans, Kapanke said he didn’t know the answer.
His comments come after Republican leaders in both the Senate and Assembly said on Tuesday that there were enough votes to pass the bill.
A public hearing on the measure Tuesday lasted 17 hours, with hundreds of people spending the night in the Capitol.XmanParticipantmoparkid25 wrote:

800 students walked out of East High yesterday to show support of their teachers. I’m hoping we get our way with the temper tantrum..and the republiCANTS don’t.

Looks like all the republiCANTS will be looking for Jobs in two years.. I’ll bet they are all getting full pay with no reductions..
XmanParticipantIt was a great rally….
XmanParticipantAppears to me the only people that like King Walker are the people that couldn’t get a state job, So thats the state workers fault for passing the test..I guess 33 years ago I wanted a secure future and $4.85 an hour.. or I could have kept working at the gas station.. We have given up years of salary increases to keep our health insurance and pension. So if Walker wants to give us all backpay for all those years I’ll be glad to pay for my health insurance.
XmanParticipantyeah, I’m sick he is leading our state into the dark ages…
