We are making our way back now. We will be in Juneau Sunday through Wednesday. Please pm me with his contact info and I will contact him.78cruisingwagonParticipantHere we are at the start of the Alaska Highway
78cruisingwagonParticipantShipping within Mexico was free. I set up an account with a broker to have a Mexican address to have them shipped to. From there the broker charged me $100 for paperwork and to transport them across the border. On top of that was a 16% tarrif. From Brownsville Texas shipping to Wisconsin was $150 .
78cruisingwagonParticipant“This is a great reminder as the season starts … Several years ago I tossed out over 50 trophies … Why? Well the thing that makes me smile is actually driving the cars I’ve owned and talking to folks. My 2017 car season started off yesterday when I took my car out of storage and a truck driver driving a mobile gas station (reference to Smokey and the Bandit) pulled up along side of my car and gave me a little Toot Toot from his big rig. That is what makes me smile is getting others to smile, when they see my car.”
EXACTLY Amigo!! Could not of said it better myself. I just cant wait for the looks when I roll into Deadhorse the end of June !
78cruisingwagonParticipantYes they are a nice tire. In my mind well worth the effort for that classic look !
78cruisingwagonParticipantI did order 5 of them in case I destroy one. I was going to order an extra set, but did not want to risk it more that that. They would not take a US credit card or Pay Pal, I had to wire the money to the business. So I did not want to risk any more that I had to. Now that I know its legit , I will be ordering more.
78cruisingwagonParticipantMaybe we will have an early Car Season !

First plan ,plan, plan, and plan some more. We started making plans for the trip back in January. Looking on line, youtube, and ordering publications from government and private entities. We found out the Alaskan Highway ( Alcan), is all paved, except construction areas . It is vastly improved from what it once was. The Dalton Highway going along the Pipeline however is only paved about 100 miles of its 414 mile length. However if we take our time ,I dont think it will be a problem .
As far as the car I have a list of things to do to get it ready.
Repair fuel tank.It has a leak at the top. I Will Need to be able to fill it because of long distances between fuel.
Put heat insulation in the floor. I get a lot of heat on the trans tunnel making it uncomfortably warm with the a/c off
Get new tires. This is a challenge ! 13 inch tires are getting harder to get.
Get a removable clear protective spray or film for traveling the Dalton. I know i will get chips, but want to minimize them .
Carry spare parts and tools. I will bring belts, hoses, fuel pump, water pump, ignition parts, oil, trans fluid, filters.
We plan to do a combination of camping and hotels.Camping equipment will be in a car top carrier . This will leave the back of the car free for sleeping if we cant find a hotel , campsite, or just want to to pull over to take a nap!
We have a loose itinerary, subject to change, driving 250-300 miles a day. Only 7 months to go!78cruisingwagonParticipantWhat did you see this year that you liked and disliked at car shows?
Every thing was typical . I went to about 6 shows this year. The thing I dislike about cars shows are the long days late awards . As I have said before I prefer to go to cruise nights. or just taking a drive , that’s what our cars were built to do!
What new shows did you attend?
The Janesville Cruizers , a new club, Started a once a month cruise of the “circuit” ,In Downtown Janesville. It was lots of fun!! The only thing that might kill it is a few who insist on doing burnouts and driving fast. If you are one of them or know of any one doing this,Please stop! If you feel the need to do this go to the drag strip ! We dont want to lose a Good thing! What shows did you not attend, but would like to next year?
noneWhat shows will you not attend next year, or ever again?
none
What would you like to see different for 2017?Next summer my wife,Pinto and I will be taking a road trip of a lifetime driving to Alaska! We plan to drive to Deadhorse Alaska in Purdue Bay . That is inside the Arctic Circle and as far north as you can drive in North America. I have been in contact with a couple of car clubs in Alaska and plan to attend a show or two while we are up there.
