    I’ve had a couple of memorable ones…

There was a little kid, maybe 8-9?, that decided he was gonna shadow box himself in his reflection on my door. Before I had a chance to say anything, he tried delivering the knock out punch, by actually punching my door. The kid needed his ass kicked, but since that would’ve probably been a little out of line, I asked the Dad (who was standing there watching the whole thing).. if he would like the same treatment my door just received. It was strongly implied that it was gonna happen very soon if he didn’t immediately leave my sight.

Another one involved a Pig. A FULLY grown adult woman (30-40 years old), weighed an easy 2 bills.. decided to first step on my wheelie bars, and then bounce up and down on them!! I was “maybe” 5 feet away. Zero respect for others property. The word used to describe her in my 1st sentence would’ve been considered extremely polite and courteous, compared to what I actually said to her. My wife usually gets mad at the use of a few certain words…this time, complete approval.

For the most part, I stay away from my car during shows, and let the wife handle the riffraff. She’s turned into an attack dog if given the opportunity. ;-)

And from another perspective… how ’bout allowing the Union to NOT have to spend their money to represent a non-contributor (ie: scab), when that person has an issue? Thats one of the biggest issues I have with “right to work” states. The Union is forced, by US Labor Law, to “actively and enthusiastically represent” all members of the Bargaining Unit, whether they pay dues or not. Don’t wanna pay dues? Fine. But, Don’t come for support from the Union when an insurance claim doesn’t get paid properly, when your Supervisor “picks” on you, when your Overtime pay is wrong, etc…, etc… in a Union I used to belong to, 70-80% of the Unions office staff’s time was spent helping with Medical bills not being paid properly, OR, helping future retirees with pension planning and retirement benefits. MANY times non-contributors came with their hand out wanting the same help that Paying Union Members received…. and by law, we WERE FORCED to help them the same as paying members. If you didn’t… here came the threatened lawsuits, etc… Don’t wanna contribute?? Don’t expect Help when ya need it…

Great video, looks like a nice day and route for a drive. Do you run racing fuel?

kinda depends on what I’m planning to do, as far as what fuel I run.
500 mile trip, all highway from A to B.. it’ll run on 87/89, just no stomping the throttle (boost).
if gonna want to stab it now and then, I’ll usually go bout half’n’half .. 93 pump gas / 110 leaded Race Gas.

there’s usually always some residue of race gas in the tank, unless it’s a long trip, and no access.

Ryan… this is the mount I use. I’ve tweaked it a little for my specific use, but almost as-bought.

What would be a good time to arrive in Spring Green if ya wanted to get there relatively “early” for a decent spot?? I know there was a LOT there last year before 7am (registration start time of 8am). Didnt know how much of that was because of the TV filming, or was that the norm??

I used the Zymol Carbon wax for a couple of years on my ’69. (Dark Blue with pearl additive)

I thought it definitely brought out a little more depth on my Dark Blue color, as compared to Mother’s California Gold carnuba paste. But, that was all just subjective opinion… someone else may have looked at it and saw zero difference. The ability to deepen the gloss on “Dark Colors” is one of the selling points of the Carbon wax. I did not use any of the pre-cleaner that you mentioned.

Over those 2 years, I was on a hand-wash kick with the car, so it was hand-washed with soapy water and sponge on a weekly basis. With that type of routine, it’s hard telling exactly how long the Zymol lasted for protection. I’m sure the constant washing had some effect on it’s longevity. I’d estimate I re-waxed at least once a month, though it was mainly for show appearances, and quite possibly not needed. I can’t see much difference as far as length of protection with the Zymol compared to other decent paste waxes.

From my usage, I did have a couple of issues with the wax that I did not like. The main one, was the temperature sensitivity of the wax itself. And, I mean the container of the wax, and not the applied wax on the car. Once the wax has been opened, it is necessary to store it in a refrigerated area. (that is boldly stated on the jar itself…. looking at it now) When that became an issue was sometimes when I decided to wax on a hot/humid day (either outside or in the garage). After 15-30 minutes, the container of unused wax would start to become “slushy” or “melty” for lack of a better description. And with that in mind, there was no such thing as taking this wax with you to ANY EVENT unless you also had a portable refrigerator… LOL. The other issue that I had from time to time was: the excess wax on my applicator pad would become flakey after some use, and would drop large flakes onto the car. Many of times I would basically shake the applicator pad, or beat it against my knee, to get some of the excess flakes off of the application area. I know other waxes can do this also, but I thought the Zymol did it excessively.

I have since returned to the Mothers California Gold carnuba paste (without pre-cleaner in the wax). I’m by no means saying that Mothers is the best product either… most everyone has their own opinion.

Overall, I’d use Zymol again for the car’s appearance. But, I don’t think it was worth the extra money that it cost,, and with the inability to ever have it travel with me in the detailing bag, I just can’t see going back to it.

so…. there’s my 2 cents. take it for what it’s worth… nothing but an opinion.

Its outside the area you mentioned, but I’ve always heard good things about this place in Dubuque. (AIH Chrome Plating). I know they used to offer different levels of plating (very good for drivers up to anal beyond belief show quality). They can be pricey, and would need to verify a turnaround time. Just another option..

Being in town on Saturday, me and a friend stopped in. I have to agree with some of the comments already posted… $6.50 for parking, and $15 admission is out of line for this level of show. That is NOT saying anything negative about the participants.. some nice rides were there. But, for zero parking fee, and $15 admission, I can see 4000 cars at DesMoines Goodguys, for zero parking fee and zero admission, I can see 1500+ cars at any number of events throughout the summer. To pay daily for parking as a participant?? No.Way. – I get an attitude once in awhile, (hard to believe??)… I might possibly pack my car up and leave an event that pulled that stunt. I absolutely KNOW others that would.

As Circletrack stated, and I’ve heard many times before: Madison is a very unfriendly car town. I can’t imagine that this show will help anything. With the parking, admission, HUGE prices on concessions… I’d be shocked if many people would give the show itself very high marks. Cars were good, Show was not.

And…. on the way up, I nailed a deer at 6am near Anamosa, Iowa.
Even though I was able to continue onward, lets just say the day didn’t start too well…. ;)

Estimates tomorrow, fairly sure it’ll be totaled.
