My car is still in storage.. hopefully that changes in the next couple days. We plan on heading over with some from the club, sounds like it’ll be cool, hopefully not raining
circletrackParticipantJon, I also understand your views and agree 110% the younger generation should be included at car shows.. sooner or later some of the older generation isn’t going to be able to participate, then what?
However.. I also think this weekend is a HUGE excuse to be in the Dells that weekend without any intention of attending a car show, no matter what year/make/model car they have. This weekend has been promoted since Automotion ended last year as the party of the year, there is no excuse to have as many shows on the same weekend, it turns into a safety issue. We have several from the club that are not attending this year, or will go for a few hours and that makes me sad and angry — something that once was a good time and fun weekend has turned into a chaotic, uncontrollable (at times) mess.
circletrackParticipantSo much stuff happens outside the show that has nothing to do with Automotion. The Dells Cruisers have tried to get every event that ‘s popped up in the last year to use another name, but it’s not happening. We are going to go, we always enjoy the weekend away and I’m not going to let some punks who feel they “deserve” something and don’t have a clue what owning a classic car means, ruin my weekend. Car shows don’t happen without support and I’d hate to see this show end because of all the other activities.
circletrackParticipantMy car doesn’t come out of hiding until after May 1, usually. I also saw some cars on the road the last couple weeks, it’s hard to resist – but we still need a couple good rains and with the snow/sleet tonight and into this week, there will be more salt to go around.
Jon, you are welcome at any show, we’ve all seen new cars place highly at shows – it should be a 100 point truck, right??
circletrackParticipantI could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure all those shows were held last year, so they aren’t adding anything new.
I did talk to one of the Dells Cruisers this weekend, and we both agreed it’s annoying for the younger group to feel entitled to have shows the same weekend Automotion has been held for the last 25+ years, but that’s the way life works now
I’m not thrilled with it either, and know many of the clubs are second guessing themselves, but also feel if we don’t support Automotion we are only caving to the kids that want to take over the town and hurting a good, existing show that can’t control the idiots around them. I have heard the police presence will be even stronger these year, hopefully they at least help with traffic control.
circletrackParticipantThey are all nuts, spend way too much time arguing and less time telling us how they are going to fix this hole we’re in… I can’t see voting for anyone
circletrackParticipantSpanky and Amy parted ways with BJ earlier this year. I think they have gone off on their own, the auction wasn’t the same without them. Nothing too exciting this year, Saturday night used to be the big, don’t miss night – very boring this year, many of the same cars over and over – no thanks
circletrackParticipantWill try to make Boondockers… Wizards is usually the same weekend as Back to the 50’s, you can’t beat being surrounded by 12,000+ cars
I think Automotion is on their 30th year, or close to it
circletrackParticipant1. 120k
2. 550k
3. 200kcircletrackParticipantI don’t see anything from 1939 in that Studebaker…
circletrackParticipantI have seen a few here and there.. no one thought we’d be driving the cars in the middle of November
circletrackParticipantAgreed, we love attending Automotion – it’s always been a good time. When it takes 45 minutes to go less than a half mile and overheating starts, that’s when I get ticked. The owners of Mt Olympus have bought up nearly everything on the strip (give or take a few, where we stay is one), it’s a million dollar weekend for them – they aren’t going to change anything.
circletrackParticipantJon, thank you for your honest words.. I can only imagine it was a hard decision to let your car go, I know I never could, but understand where you are coming from.
I’ve been in this hobby for a long time and usually love every minute of it, but will agree this year was different and I think it’s because of what we all saw at the first show of the year for many – Automotion. I have never seen such a disrespect for others as I did that weekend, unfortunately that is not going to change. The Dells has changed a lot in the last few years, it’s always been about making money, but this year a new level. I know the organizers of Automotion have asked the hotels to work with them and encourage the other group that seems to think Automotion is now THEIR show and screw the rest of you, that will never happen. I’m not sure if we will attend the show next year, and if we do, it’ll be for a few hours on Saturday and that’s it. I hate to think the younger “I get it my way no matter what you say” generation has ruined a great show, but the time has come.
Everything else you said is right on, there is nothing worse than attending a show and hearing an owner brag about his vehicle and have no flipping clue what’s been done to it, and heaven forbid it breaks down, they would not have a clue what to do. I realize not everyone can, or wants to restore a car – but give the person who did the work the credit, not your pocketbook.
We didn’t attend a lot of shows this year, Steve always has several irons in the fire. We did attend the Inaugural Tri Five Nationals in Bowling Green, Kentucky in August and I can’t wait to go back. That show really set the standards, they had no idea what to expect and over 1500 tri fives showed up and took the town over for the weekend, they were very polite and respectful.. it was like going back in time, no one was afraid to drive their cars and everyone genuinely seemed to enjoy themselves and the surroundings…
As always, I thank everyone that takes the time to support the shows in the area, we are lucky to have something every weekend, if we want it. It’s going to be a long winter, hope to see you – especially at the VFW on June 25, 2016
circletrackParticipantYes, another event decided they wanted that date and reserved the park without my knowledge – I read about it in the local newspaper. Needless to say, I’m not happy at all and we are currently working on another location. I hope to have an update soon
