I went to the Mt. Olympus show…it was smallish but a very unique mix of cars I haven’t seen before. What I liked about it was that it was a totally different type of show and atmosphere (newer music, burnout pit, lowrider comps, etc). Basically it was the “anti-show” show because it was intended to be everything that the traditional WI car shows are not. Also was cool winning Best of Show overall.
I thought it was great that there were multiple shows in town that weekend because it meant there literally was something for everyone…if only there was a way to control the chaos.
That being said there was still the usual automotion stupidity…and not necessarily from just the younger crowd. There were plenty of baby boomers doing dumb things as well.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantJudging by the amount of accidents and tickets reported so far….Im putting money on the latter as well.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantAside from the show at Noah’s Ark, there are 6 different shows going on in the Dells this weekend. While some people are pissy about the shows possibly detracting from Automotion…its actually cool to see multiple shows that day in the same town because each of the shows cater to different genres. Basically it means that there really is something for everyone this weekend. In some ways its becoming similar to what happens in Vegas during SEMA week: tons of car shows for every genre imaginable (only on a much smaller scale).
As long as everyone behaves and is respectful it could mean greater things for each of the shows. Competition = better shows. Or people could get stupid and ruin it for everyone.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantIf anyone was interested, these wheels are still available. Asking $750 obo.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantRyan, I think you hit the nail on the head…as in a lot of us are looking to attend more “Events” rather than “Shows”…things that have more going on than collecting a piece of plastic.
And perhaps that is something that show organizers should be taking note of…a show is just a show, but if you can turn it into an Event…then you have something special.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantThis year we didn’t hit nearly as many shows as we did in the past…spent more time with our 18month old. But we did still hit our main staples like Beaver Dam and the Road Apples Sun Prairie show. We also branched out a bit and hit other events like World of Wheels, Stance, and a few Tuner car shows and started racing.
Out of the ones we went to this year, Id have to say Watertown was a huge surprise. With the new organization group they more than tripled the show size, which caught them off guard a bit…but that is a good problem to have. The Silk show has the potential to be really cool, but it needs some work. The Optima Challenge at Road America is an absolute must if you want to see what you and your car can do…its a fun weekend with some of the best builds in the country.
I think next year we will probably branch out more into the Illinois and Minnesota scenes and focus more on events that have other things going on (like track time, etc). And with any luck, we’ll be showing two cars…..
Eclipse_TunerParticipantIll be at the Swan City show in Beaver Dam. See you there.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantWow, I think I will head to that show next year. It looks like you guys did a fantastic job.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantI tried posting a review, but it keeps giving an “invalid token” error.
So here it is:
For a first time show, they did a nice job. The assortment of cars was across a wide range…about 80 cars total. Got to see a few people that I haven’t in a while, so that was cool. The DJ played a decent mix of music. The entertainers were not Silk’s A team talent, but it was interesting. $20 for a photo of them clothed next to the car was extreme considering that’s the price of a lap dance there. The raffle and door prizes were nice, including a jack, jack stands, wrench sets.
They had some special awards: Judges choice, Best of show, and Entertainer’s choice. I was fortunate enough to nab the Entertainer’s choice and 1st in class. Overall the judging was pretty much spot on.We’ll probably go again next year.
For next year, here is what Silk might want to consider:
Have the entertainment dancing in the club…maybe starting at noon.
Silk’s food menu is actually pretty good, why not have that going too instead of the stuff outside.
More/better entertainers.
Perhaps the show could tie into a feature event such as when they have a top act like Lisa Ann show up.Eclipse_TunerParticipantIt wasn’t bad for a first time show. I was surprised by the mix of vehicle types…there was everything from tuners to donks, trucks, classics and muscle.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantI think we’re going to skip it this year. We’ll be at angel park on Sat. though.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantIm getting anxious to get the car out but the weather sucks and I have the whole rear suspension taken apart.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantlooks sharp
Eclipse_TunerParticipantLooks very nice. I used to do hydro dipping, it is really hard to do on complex pieces like a dash.
Eclipse_TunerParticipantMy winter projects include new swaybars and rear camber links, new carbon trunk surround, and painting my wheels.
