That was sarcasm. Madison wouldn’t dare ticket the out of town money the the power Tour is bringing in. They don’t want the bad press. Picking on local kids is PC tho.

For the gestapo to continue with their “enforcement initiative” are they going to have 30 cars outside the Alliant Center and ticket everyone with loud exhaust and tinted windows? That would be the only legal thing to do to avoid a profiling charge from anyone who is smart enough to pursue it.

What is to stop Madison from taking this further? Like to the level in southern California? They have taken it to the point where they can pull over any car for suspicion of being modified, search, and if anything is not stock, the car can be impounded and destroyed. That is how far they have taken to eliminate street racing. They say if the car is modified it can be used for street racing and is therefore illegal.

I don’t know about anyone else but I would race a stock beater car before I would race a car that I have almost $30K in

Noticing is one thing, action is another.

thanks for the insight lilwillie. I was shocked when I got the “we don’t know you” comments. Who gives a rats behind about who is talking about a subject, it is the subject that is important, not the person. we here understand that, we are adults. They come across as children. And that is exactly why the police are able to do this. They know that children won’t speak up. They know that children won’t band together and stand up for themselves or others. The police are singling out the import group because they are children. If any classics go to East Washington, they are not hassled. The police won’t risk it.

As I said on that forum, I agree that the street racing HAS to stop. Same with the running red lights and reckless driving. But the gestapo tactics, of pulling people over for exhaust and tints simply to harass, should not be tolerated.

My idea was to get attention, to get the media to notice so an avenue would open up to get that out. To say “Hey we support you making the city safer, just don’t go too far. Let us have our hobby”.

The pot smokers have done an excellent job of getting the police to give them concessions. They are allowed to have small amounts of marijuana without hassle. And pot is federally illegal. The cigar smokers are trying to get concessions in the smokin gban for them. They are trying to get legislature to allow them their rights. Why can’t the car community get concessions?

My exhaust, by the letter of the law is illegal (as well as anyone here who doesn’t have a stock exhaust). But it is not as loud as buses, or Harley’s, or even lawn mowers. My tint is within legal limits. Yet If I were to drive my car, and get noticed by a cop wanting to be part of this “enforcement initiative’ I will be hassled. The law needs to be looked at. It is subjective at best. Can they establish acceptable decible limits?

You know I got on madisonstreetcar.com and did a “rally the troops” type thread to try to see what kind of backing I could get to start a mass cruise on the capitol (like the bikers did years ago to repeal the helmet law and like the pro-pot people do every year). I got told to “shut up” and was met with nothing but, what felt like, fear. It seems as tho all of the import crowd is afraid to speak up for fear of being noticed by the police. “we don’t dare get together as a group so they can ticket us all. Let’s just put our heads in the sand and hope they don’t notice us”.

My biggest fear is that Madison decides that the next step is to do what they do in California. Pull over any car that may be modified, inspect it, and if anything is not stock, impound it to be destroyed. I don’t want my freedom to enjoy this hobby taken away. But I can’t stand alone and the ones that need to speak up won’t. So screw it. Let the police do what they want and when the Gestapo start impounding cars, I will laugh and say “see maybe you should have done something back then”

I have said it before and I will say it again.

I do not understand why everyone calls Madison “liberal”. By all definition it is not. Madison is the most conservative city I have ever lived in, and I have lived in quite a few. Unless it is marijuana, homosexuality, abortion, or a bicycle, they want it outlawed.

I just contacted channel 5 news, urging them to do a report on this from our perspective. Our voice needs to be heard. This is a subject that has to be addressed getting all car enthusiasts involved. I urge all of you to contact channel 5 as well, and ask your friends to do the same.

If anyone has any ideas, I would also like to try to arrange a mass car cruise to the capitol, much like the bikers did many years ago to repeal the helmet law.

I would think that this “enforcement initiative” would be more effective and have a greater impact on public safety if it was focused on the beltline, instead of East Wash. When was the last time you drove on the beltline from say, Stoughton Road to Mineral Point, and had a pleasant, positive experience? Posted speeds and common courtesy are meaningless on the beltline, especially during rush hours and all day Saturday and Sunday. Also, when was the last time any news report indicated that over 100 tickets were issued on the beltline in a 48 hour period? Personally, I would support a full time enforcement initiative on the beltline, to include random check points for intoxicated drivers.

I guess that MPD and WSP are more concerned about visibility and writing tickets to young folks who like to cruise, than “taking a bite out of crime”.

They aren’t concerned with visibilty. They are only concerned with revenue. Don’t fool yourself, this is no different than a school bully demanding your lunch money. They have a little power and are abusing it. Organized crime did this in the 1920’s when they charged people in neighborhoods for “protection”. It was called extortion. Is this any different really. They say they are worried about public safety.

The number two reason for accidents in this country is people driving too slow. When was the last time obstruction of traffic was enforced for that?

All of this is revenue, nothing more. tickets for a few miles over the speed limit is a way to raise money. Tickets for “amplified exhaust” are a way to make money. Tickets for “cruising” are a way to raise money. this is not about safety or enforcing laws, it is taxation, nothing more.

If you or I were to issue tickets for any of these things and demand payment (as the police do) we would be arrested for extortion. Try it. The next time a young person drives by your house with a car that you don’t like, stop them, and at gun point demand money. Maybe even take their car apart like eclipse tuner had happen.

Is this really making the quality of life better in Madison?

EXACTLY!! Cruising takes a higher priority than drug enforcement? I firmly believe that the State Patrol could/should be eliminated and the money should be spent actually enforcing the laws that involve REAL CRIME. I agree that reckless driving should be handled but when did anyone doing 10 miles over the speed limit on an empty highway actually pose a threat to life at the level that it seems to be enforced? With gas prices at a never-ending flux, Why does our tax dollars continue to go towards an officer sitting on the side of the road, waiting to harass (generally) law abiding citizens when REAL criminals can sell drugs to our children?

Here’s a message to our lovely police force…Go solve a crime and arrest a criminal. Let us enjoy our hobby without harassment. A loud exhaust never hurt anyone.

I mean seriously. Everyone gets trash picked up. Is that more of a need than health care?

Imagine if we treated other necessities in this world as we do health care. Could you imagine needing insurance for police? or fire? Could you imagine police giving you a bill every time you saw them? Or needing insurance so you could afford to call the fire department when your house was on fire? Could you imagine calling the fire department because lightning hit your house and started a fire and getting “do you have insurance?” as the first question. Or calling the police and getting the same question?

Health care is the same as Fire or Police departments. It is a need.

We need to stop letting health care be a business and start making it a necessity. Other countries (ALL other countries) take health care as a need and supply health care, our country sees it as a business, a way to make money. If we treated health care in this country as a need there would be no need for insurance to be involved. I met a surgeon from Romania once. He made $60K/year. He said that he was disgusted with how doctors here make so much money. In his country being a doctor is a calling, a valued ability, not a business to make money. He is paid well but not getting rich off of the misery of others.

It is not a matter of changing how we perform health care, but changing how we view health care that needs to happen.

Money and greed are the root of all evil. When will people learn that?
