Today the bill was assigned it’s Assembly Bill number: AB-157. As I wrote previously, it already got a Senate Bill number: SB-110.

In all correspondence with your Senator and/or Assembly Rep. be sure you refer to it as SB-110 / AB-157.

Please note my error in the previous post.

    Correct AB# is 157

    To All,

Things are moving, slowly but steadily. Here’s the important news:

    BILL NUMBER

Today the bill was assigned it’s Assembly Bill number: AB-157. As I wrote previously, it already got a Senate Bill number: SB-110.

In all correspondence with your Senator and/or Assembly Rep. be sure you refer to it as SB-110 / AB-158.

    HEARING DATES

The Senate hearing (orig. scheduled 4/11) has still not been re-scheduled. We expect it within the next couple weeks, but cannot confirm this. We anticipate very short notice of the hearing, perhaps only 24 hrs. This is less than ideal, because it will make it difficult for owners to attend the hearing, but we will send out an alert immediately.

With this AB number, the bill can now be scheduled for an Assembly hearing. We’re working on getting that scheduled, and will keep you posted with details.

    ONLINE SIGN-UP NUMBERS ARE “MIND-BLOWING“!

We are now over 600 strong registered in support of this bill, and Sen. Grothman’s office says this number is “mind blowing”. (Tom’s been fretting some, because last year we had more. But with this news, he’s relaxing a little. Remember, we had months to gather signatures last year.) There is support from every corner of the state.

So keep up your fantastic efforts! We want the whole Legislature to know that we’re a big active group, when it comes time for them to vote for our bill. Let’s keep blowing their minds, and make this happen!

The Senate Transportation Committee Hearing on this bill (originally scheduled for 4/11/13) has been delayed for a week. I’ll post the new date when we learn it.

    NOW IS THE TIME!

We’ve all bitched about DMV causing problems for years. Now is your chance to do something to fix that.

Our bill has finally been introduced into the Legislature. It is now officially 2013 Senate Bill 110. We have a Senate Committee Hearing tentatively scheduled for April 11th.

We’ve worked for several years to achieve this level of cooperation with DOT. Lots of money has been spent to get this far. This is truly our only shot at this.

We need each and every Wisconsin citizen to take action now.

WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW (Only WISCONSIN citizens):

    1) Sign up “IN FAVOR” of SB-110 Online.
Click https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18-2…viewform?pli=1 to register. You will be asked to provide your name, street, city, ZIP. This information will be provided to Sen. Grothman’s office only. Your name will appear in the hearing record. Please only register one time.

    2) Attend the Senate Hearing.
Attending the Hearing is your right. As a show of support, we would like to have a large group (perhaps 50-100 ideally) attend the hearing.

You have a right to speak. However due to time concerns, we would prefer that you simply register IN FAVOR and do not speak. You will be asked to silently make your support known by show of hand or standing up. By acting as a solid group, your silence will be more powerful than words.

Be prepared to spend the entire day at the Capitol. We will confirm the date and time of the hearing. But these hearing schedules are unpredictable, and frequently get delayed. If you take the day off to attend, you won’t want to have to leave half-way through.

If you plan to attend, we’d appreciate having you RSVP via pm to get a rough head-count for planning purposes.

    WHAT IS NEXT:

The Assembly may choose to hold it’s own hearing. If so, we will notify you. The procedure is similar to what we’ve outlined above for the Senate.

Assuming both Senate and Assembly Transportation Committees pass the bill, it will then go before both full houses for a vote. When that happens, we need to push legislators to vote for it. We will keep you posted as it progresses, and advise you what to do.

    BTT and Update.

We have 26 sponsors for this bill. It’ll be introduced to committee soon. I’ll keep you posted on what to do to support it.

Remember, this takes several steps. To those of you who have helped already, THANK YOU! Please help again as this moves forward.

Don’t take this for granted, we have to work to gain our rights!

in reply to: Collector Plate Requirements To Change! #41321

As promised, we spent the past two days at the Capitol pushing for Co-Sponsors to this Bill. We visited 130 offices. (Two weren’t there.) Legislative interest is high.

I’ll update this site as things progress. Please watch for updates, and please check our site for specific info and documents. http://www.alfaheaven.com/MilitarySection/2013%20WI%20Legislation/2013Legis.html

Just because this is going okay does not mean that our work is over. It still will take a tremendous push to get this passed into law. Your help is needed. Please get involved.

in reply to: BRAKE CLEANER can KILL you. Read How. #40452

    Jonmandude,

Thanks for a reasonable response. I read the article too, and yes, I fully agree that he was cutting corners. He admits as much. I did not advocate for the use of brake cleaner for welding.

But consider that I didn’t post the warning to a professional welding forum. I put it out there on a collector car forum. I’m 52, and when I was in school, I learned how to cut, braze, and weld metals. If they warned us then about heated brake cleaner turning deadly, I either missed it or forgot it. I own old cars, and I work on them, and I assumed others out there like me might benefit from a reminder.

If you appreciate my care in posting it but have relevant input (like your last post stressing the dangers of chemical misuse), then I suggest you might have avoided the “possibly fictional” descriptive. I’m probably as skeptical as anyone of the validity of claims made on the internet, so I admit that anything can be fake. But his website complete with address, photo, and phone number looks pretty secure, and the guy’s all over the bicycle and motorcycle web world. While it’s reasonable to describe the guy as careless, I see no reason for suggesting he or his advice are fictional.

As you wrote: “Be smart, be careful, and be safe.”. That’s all I was suggesting. It kind of got sidetracked.

Please do not worry that I got my butt hurt. I’m actually fairly thick skinned. Zac and I do not share many views as his latest post shows, and that’s fine by me.

    Adios. It’s been fun.

You know what? I started this thread in the apparently mistaken idea that some others here might appreciate learning about a potentially lethal threat. I guess you guys are more into snide insinuations, so in the future I won’t bother.

    Quote:
The person in this (possibly fictional) report put himself in danger by not using chemicals properly.

If you’d bothered to research this, you’d learn that Steve Garn began building BMX racing frames in 1973, which is likely before some of you were born. He works with metal for a living, since 1987 as Blue Ridge Electric and Welding (BREW) , so he’s not just some dumb-ass with a torch. He not only took the time to post a warning for others, he posted his photo and contact info including telephone number too. If you care to disregard his warning, go for it.

But okay, let’s insinuate that he’s “possibly fictional” and that he is careless and stupid. Whatever.

    Quote:
I’ll bet you didn’t even have to look that up.

I guess you’d rather make this thread about pot use. As a matter of fact, I did have to look it up. But my very first Google search of “marijuana kills” turned up the links I supplied. It only took a couple minutes.

I had a much harder time actually finding any evidence that anyone has died as a direct result of ingesting the stuff however. In fact, I wasn’t able to find any at all. Perhaps you can supply this information? Or were you just blowing smoke? :silly:

Say what you want. I bet he’s not the only guy in the country using brake cleaner for purposes other than cleaning brakes. If you guys don’t see any benefit in the thread, please feel free to ignore it. You don’t have to add your sarcastic bs.

It’s too bad this forum is so un-friendly.

    Quote:
    So can marijuana use.

    Nice hijack.

Thank you for adding such a helpful comment. It is true, marijuana can kill you. According to the U.S. Dept. of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration. They say the facts are “uncontroverted”:

“In layman terms this means that in order to induce death a marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times as much marijuana as is contained in onemarijuana cigarette. NIDA-supplied marijuana cigarettes weigh approximately .9 grams. A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response.”

Here’s the full text of Judge Young’s ruling, see page 57.

Of course, bears kill people too. Watch out!

There are a number of cleaners and refrigerants used in the auto industry which, when burned (welding, brazing, cutting, etc.) produce phosgene gas, also known as “mustard gas”. Perhaps some of you on this board do these sorts of activities and, like me, were unaware of this danger.

Here is a interesting discussion by HVAC guys about phosgene gas.

He’s also got what I believe to be Wisconsin’s biggest dyno in his shop: 200 mph and 1000 hp, IIRC.

Tom’s nearing retirement age, so things have slowed down in his shop. But it’s still fun to see. Hopefully he gets some more photos posted soon on his website.

in reply to: Motor Vehicle Registration Law Proposed #39382

We’ve just learned that the “effective date” for the newly passed 2011 Wis. Act 235 will be July 2, 2012.

This means that beginning July 2, all pre-’70 (Oct. 1, 1969) former military vehicle, U.S. & foreign, may register for normal registration options. This includes all weight vehicles. (As always, a title or SF-97 is required, and as always, compliance with Wis. Equip. standards is a condition of operation. Just like civilian vehicles, Fed. Motor Carrier Safety Admin. rules apply to larger commercially used vehicles.)

Also remember that currently, ANY former U.S. military vehicle under 10,000 GVW may register for regular registration regardless of year, and regardless if there is a certification label.

We will be meeting with DOT this summer, to address vehicles over 10,000# gvw which are 1970 or newer. We’ll keep you posted as this moves forward.
