See You Down The Road

After many years serving the classic car community, Wisconsin Collector Car will be shutting down at the end of 2024. Thank you for all of the car show memories!

Yep, I had just got my car out of the shop and was taking it home (which was the first day I have actually driven it this year) and got stopped. Then a second cop pulled up and they proceeded to do a drug test on my car…pulling out interior paneling, etc. Over an hour later they issued me a ticket for exhaust and left me to put my car back together.

The city of Madison is about as rediculous as can be, and their police force is no exception. It would be nice if they would patrol the beltline or actually stop the crime on west wash area (like all the drugs, hookers, etc.). Heaven forbid they actually do some real police work.

    I couldnt agree more.

Ford, even though they are still a little bit behind, for the most part saw what was about to happen and have been making considerable strides to become viable again. GM is too bloated to make necessary changes quickly, and Chysler has simply been doomed for a number of years. GM and Chrysler simply need to be let to fail and then start over from the ashes.

Sure there will be a bit of fallout, but there are 12 other automakers who manufacture and use the same supplier base as GM and Chrysler, so the suppliers wont go away, just get a little bit smaller.

Businesses, no matter the size, should always be allowed to fail. Otherwise there is no reason for them to self-analyze and adapt.

If they actually produced something that I liked, then perhaps I would consider it. But then again, I’ve had bad luck with GM, Chrysler, and Ford products in the past which makes me very wary of buying from them again.

So for now Im content to avoid the big 3.

    Year restrictions are total crap.

Food that is overpriced is becoming more and more common. This year I plan on bringing my own each time.

It should always be one trophey per car unless it is a special award like mayor choice etc.

It would be nice for shows to put up more signs on the roads and by the show car entrance. Beaver Dam’s Swan City car show does a great job of this.

Judging should be by concourse only or non at all.

Club cars that belong to the group putting on the show should have their own class.

It would be fantastic if shows would get a better definition of “tuner car” Or they should be done as late model (1990-current import modified).

Mustangs, vettes, and camaros need to have their own classes across the entire model years span.

Cars on State has become rediculously over rated. Its a “jurried” show with a huge price tag. Not to mention all the bikes, boards and such.

The concept is novel, the execution of it sucks.

Even though this sounds harsh for the workers, big industry should be allowed to fail and go under just like any other business. Whether it be automotive or banking…if you cant produce a viable, competitive product and maintain profitability, you should go under just like anyone else.

The other thing affecting applications is student aid availability…its pretty much non-existant now, especially if you are white. If you cant get financial aid, you cant really apply.

Its actually a pretty harsh downward spiral.

Yeah, but the cost of education is no longer offset by the salary after graduation. Statistically my generation will the the first generation in U.S history to actually be poorer than our parents…and that is directly tied to the cost of admission.

When I was in UW, I saw my tuition triple over the course of 4 years.

+1 That was a good race. Im not a fan of the format and the eligibility criteria…seems more like a bailout for the manufacturers than it was about the drivers. It used to have some prestige behind it…now anyone seemingly can get in (Logano, Speed, Menard, etc.)

Did anyone else notice how badly the cars handled??? You know Nascar designed a crappy outdated car when the crews weld the front springs into a compressed mass of steel in order to make the car turn…

It will be interesting to see how the year plays out.

Same here, Im about to switch this comming month. There are plenty of companies that want to service these areas…its just that Charter had such a monopoly with the towns as service provider.

Charter is one company I would love to see burn to the ground…

    Code:

Don’t take it there. Probably not right for me to say it being a business owner myself that specializes in collector cars and hot rods, but due to my past experiences with Lance and his group of ex-cons I feel the need to tell everyone to stay away from them.

    Quote:

Not trying to start anything on here…but Ive had the complete opposite experience with them. And the people Ive send there havent had any complaints either.

I guess we all have certain shops that we wont go back to. (I personally will never go to Lancaster Toyota because of their service senior tech).

Im about as liberal as they come, but grounded enough to be realistic.

Regardless of political affiliations, I find it obsurd that anyone would want our own government and leadership to fail. Rush clearly doesnt think things through because if our leadership fails, the public sufers for it.

This is the biggest thing I hate about partisan politics…its all anklebitting and backstabbing for one’s self intrest, with little regard to the greater good…and comments like Rush’s just further that issue.

It should be more of “Yes we dont agree and may not like each other, but lets focus on solving the big issues”. I know it sounds elementary, and it is, but that seems to be one of the biggest things polititions forget.

    bah, politics annoy me.

I think Fiat has more to gain than Chrysler does. The Chrysler design language will have to change a lot in order to be adapted to Fiat, and vice versa, so I think it will be more of them using each other’s dealership space in both markets than actually producing new cars.

What is really interesting is that they both have ties to GM, even though GM bailed from thier deal with Fiat a few years ago, they still get parts from GM and Opal. And Chrysler is owned by Cerberus…which also has a very large stake in GMAC. Perhaps the longterm result will be a merger of GM and Chrysler with a stronger foothold in the Europe market.

Although it will be nice to see the Alfa Romeo name in the US.

For me it has to be the Beaver Dam Swan City Park show.

It was the first show I’d ever been to and it was close to home. Its a great crowd, a huge mix of cars, and put on really really well. Its also a very nice setting.

I am also looking forward to the Musclecar Performance show/benefit at Rev. Jim’s Roadhouse in May (date and details are being worked out). Mainly because it is going to be more of a charity event than a true car show. The proceeds are going to be going to Jim of Musclecar Performance, who was recently diagnosed with cancer and will be undergoing treatment.
