It definitely looks like Mustangs and Camaros are the darlings this year. My dream car went across the block this afternoon. An ‘A’ paint scheme S/C Rambler went for $44K and a ‘B’ scheme $60K

I don’t understand the roll offs. I drive 40+ miles home at 3:00 in the morning and drive close to the speed limit when possible. The roads aren’t that bad. Yes there is some large drifts on the country roads (and if I didn’t have a truck I never would have gone thru) but the highways are good. People need to plan their routes and learn how to drive. The “too slow” people are as much of a danger as the “too fast” ones. Learn how to control your vehicle. Learn how to feel what your vehicle is doing. I know when my truck starts to slip, I adjust accordingly, and never have a problem. I drive what the road allows me to drive safely. If you do not possess the skills needed to drive in this weather without causing risk to yourself and others, stay home.

Watched a little last night. It looks like muscle cars are down a little but street rods are up a little. The real gauge is always Saturday night when the top cars go on the block.

The problem with a trip south now is that you still have to come back. hahaha.

I just got done blowing the driveway…damn it is cold. I think I should have stayed in Texas. Where is this so called ‘global warming’ ?

I like the Wizards for painted surfaces, but I have found that Ice works better on windows and on carbon fiber. I have also found that the Ice liquid (not the detailer) works very well removing wax residue from rubber trim.

That 67 Mustang looks interesting, but the 70 Challenger behind it in the first pic looks even more interesting.

I don’t see it as doing anything but allowing the top brass and shareholders to get what they can before it falls. GM’s top brass already have said that they see nothing wrong in their compensation and so has the UAW. Until the realization hits that the sales aren’t supporting the spending, there will be nothing but the inevitable failure.

I think we all know what day I would choose. And no Circletrack, I would not interfere with my favorite cruise night…Tuesdays at Culvers East

Well the loss of production in this country is directly reflective of Clinton’s administration and why I say he was the worst President in our country’s history. When NAFTA came across his desk the republicans warned him that signing it would open the door for many industries in the US to move their business offshore. Although NAFTA was created to simplify trucks crossing the border from Mexico, it lessened the taxes on importing goods and made it cheaper for businesses to produce elsewhere and import here. Before NAFTA the taxes on importing goods made it economically better to produce at here. That combined with Reagan’s trickle down economics and Bush’s tax cuts to the rich have killed the industry and crippled the middle class. Now it is coming back to hurt the wealthy and they always cushion the blow by throwing the “lower” classes under the bus first.

I agree to an extent. I have worked in union and non-union shops in the envelope business. I have worked with both good and bad unions. Good unions try to work with the business to get what is the best deal for the employees. Bad unions only want money, they do not care if the company suffers or if the employees end up losing when the company goes out of business. As long as the union gets it’s dues while it can. In most fields I would agree with workers needing to make a stand and get compensated, but not with the UAW. Workers in the “foreign” automakers plants are getting good wages, many over $30+/hour. There are too many stories of the $70+/hour wages in the UAW out there. While I have no problem with people getting what they are worth, if your business is failing you must make concessions. Call me crazy but $30/hour sounds a hell of a lot better than looking for a job because your company went out of business trying to pay you more.

I feel bad for the workers because they WILL end up taking the hit. The UAW making a stand will not prevent the hit from coming. My problem is not with the automakers, they are just the first of what I expect to be a long line of industries hitting major financial downturns. The middle class in this country has been getting less and less pay increases every year since the 80’s, while everything is going up in cost. The CEO’s in this country have been getting their increases and bonuses. It has to stop. If it takes the automakers to collapse to make it happen, so be it. Sometimes you have to go back to move forward.

So the senate rejected the bailout. This time is was the UAW greed that ended it. The republicans in the senate asked for two things, for the wages be lowered to what the “foreign” automakers in the US pay, and for a date when changes in the automakers will happen by, They said “any date in 2009”. The UAW did want to agree to be “equal” to non-union workers.

The automakers couldn’t give a date. Which sounds to me like they aren’t actually going to change anything after they have the bailout money.

Well more proof that the house of representatives is not the voice of the people, the house passed the bailout even though public opinion does not support it. The latest public opinion poll says 43% support and 47% do not. Yet the house passed it pretty easily. Way to listen to the people guys.

The senate could vote as early as Friday. The rumor is the bill could get defeated.

Look if Bob Lutz’ comment alone doesn’t tell you that the automakers aren’t willing to change to survive then what does? They want to continue on as business as usual, just like they have for years even though they knew they needed to change to keep up. Let the automakers survive or fail on their own. It is capitalism. Did any of the big three want to help Studebaker or American Motors or Nash or any of a number of smaller US automakers that fell before? No. So why do they get a handout now?

On a side note, it is funny how it has been preached and preached that we are in a global economy yet this is all about “our” automakers competing with “foreign” automakers. Where is the global view in that? It is also funny how “our” automakers have production lines outside the US while “foreign” automakers have plants in many US states.

All politicians are corrupt. This moron just got caught. As long as government remains by the rich for the rich actions like this will continue to happen. I have met very few people who have a lot of money that honestly respect the law or aren’t always trying to find a way to screw somebody out of money. And it takes money to run for office, so while in office it becomes a constant attempt to get more money for yourself and your friends, who in turn help you. They try to paint as a “helping the citizens” action, but they never pass a law or bill without thinking “how can I better my financials with this?”

Is Bob Lutz a moron? Or is he just that greedy and think we are all that stupid?

After the CEO of Ford offered to work for $1 and offered to cancel all bonuses for salaried employees. Ford has now said that they think they can restructure enough and survive without any government assistance. After congress has put the pay of CEO’s in question.

Bob Lutz goes on the air saying that his $1.5 million salary is not that much and should not be in question. His reasoning? Other people make more in other businesses. Are you kidding me? Who the fudge needs $1.5M/year anyway? I honestly hope that foolish statement makes the congress say no to the bailout. I honestly hope it comes back to bite him in the rear end so he can have to find a job making normalpeople pay. Hey Bob, that type of greed is what got GM in trouble dumbass.
