jonmandudeParticipant
Well right now I am closely watching the weather. It looks to rain by 2:30 but maybe be done by 4:00. If that is what it does I am still on. If it sticks around like it has been doing this past week I am done for tonight.
If it stops by 4:00 I hope to see some of you. It will be a nice preamble to the Spring Green/ HoH weekend
jonmandudeParticipantQuote:I have heard that competitors parked alongside one another will not or do not interact on any level because of the level of competition. That just doesn’t sound fun to me. I build my cars because I enjoy them. I go to shows for two reasons. One because I enjoy all cars and enjoy seeing what others have done. Two, and more importantly, I enjoy the interaction. I enjoy meeting others that share my love of cars. Without that there is no thrill of being at the show. I am not one of those people that enjoy getting to the show, polishing for an hour, and then sitting behind my car waiting for someone to give me praise. I prefer to go, quickly wipe the dust, walk around and check out others, then sit and talk to friends.
jonmandudeParticipantI hate judging altogether, concours or spectator. Too often it is biased. I would prefer not to be judged. I have won trophies on cars I have built in the past and now they just gather dust. While it is nice to be recognized for doing something well, I would rather enjoy driving the finished product.
jonmandudeParticipantI have used Turtlewax Ice on my windows with excellent results. I wipe it with an inside-out sock. Wizards for the paint. Recently I started using a polish that Honda motorcycles use to market. This stuff is amazing on chrome and glass, but hard to come by. The only place I know that sells it is Slaughter Motorsports, and they don’t carry large amounts so they run out.
I am not sure about the WD-40 on the paint. Won’t it damage the paint itself? Race cars don’t have to last. To get my engine bay shiny I just use Armor All. I spray it on and let it soak overnight, then wipe any excess away the next day. The shine lasts about a month or more.
jonmandudeParticipantI will be emailing Good Guys this week. I will let you all know what they have to say.
jonmandudeParticipantThey told me that they have registration at a seperate location because it eases traffic in the area of the show.
I would agree with you about the prices. There is no need to charge $3 for a bottle of water or cup of coffee. I saw a lot of coolers and food brought in.
jonmandudeParticipantI am not going to rate it. I think it would be unfair to rate a show that had so much promise and got ruined by nature.
jonmandudeParticipantI went this morning about 8:00. They were calling the whole day off and cancelling the show. The awards will be mailed to the winners. They were taking the blue tickets at the gate and saying that they would draw the winner back in California. I wonder how many people actually got there early enough today to enter.
And as I sit here now, looking out the window, the rain has stopped. Watch today end up being fairly decent.
jonmandudeParticipantQuote:As for the goodguys show, I hope a lot of them cars are watertight! You know the saddest thing to see today at the show was many, MANY street rods that had not tops or side windows in the rain. Most had covers, but there were more than a few wide open to the elements. All I could do is hang my head and feel for the owners that made the trip here to the show only to fill there cars with water. I hope the ones that were open eventually got covered and I hope they weren’t leather.
jonmandudeParticipantI was there from 9:00 until 2:00 there were definitely more at 9:30 than at 11:00. Once the rain started falling people were leaving while others were coming in. I would say at most it was around 700, maybe 750. The 1500 could be how many are entered. The highest number I saw was on Gary Esse’s 57 limo, which was almost 1200. I am sure there is more than that.
I have been watching the radar and it looks like we have another wave of rain building at the Iowa-Wisconsin boarder. That should be here later tonight. Hopefully that is it and it will clear in the morning. It would be nice to end the Good Guys show with sun.
jonmandudeParticipantThank you very much for the support. I simpathize with those that were unhappy, no one wants to be excluded from anything, yet it is life.
I am glad that you, and others like you, enjoy what I am trying to do each week. It is that knowledge that keeps me plugging away at it and able to tolerate those that are less understanding.
Look me up at the show this weekend.
jonmandudeParticipantThat is extremely cool. I wonder why somebody hasn’t painted their grill pony like that.
jonmandudeParticipantTonight was a total of 182 cars. Thank you for all that attended. I hope you had a good time.
There was only a couple “issues” that I had to deal with. The biggest was the people who didn’t like the year restrictions and called to complain to the restaurant, so I had no choice but to let some newer cars in. I am not happy about that. Why can’t people just accept a one day rule and be happy. I personally wouldn’t want to disrespect a classic street rod or muscle car with a new Mustang or Corvette.
One Corvette owner even had the nerve to say I was becoming, and I quote, “an asshole” because I wanted the show to be for the classics just this once. I was truly offended. We have a Corvette only day every spring, why can’t there be a classics only day?
And one other person didn’t want to park in only one spot. His argument was “what’s the difference?” Well if there is no difference than why are you arguing?
Sorry guys, I just had to vent. Honestly, thank you all once again for the support. I do enjoy hosting the shows and meeting all of you. I hope you all enjoy coming as well. I know that I shouldn’t let a couple unhappy peopel ruin my day, but I just want things to be enjoyable for all.
jonmandudeParticipantWhen I went to the Marriot to register (about 2:00pm) there was about 50 cars as well. But remember they had a cruise to Baraboo from 10:00am, so many of the cars were there. I spoke with the Good Guys brass on Wednesday and they said that they had more pre-registered cars this year than any year in Waukesha. They hope to be over 2000 cars. I agree that the weather Saturday sounds like a downer and may stop some people from coming from other cities. We will see. The last I heard Sunday the rain is expected to head north, so maybe Sunday won’t be so bad (of course you have to believe in the weatherman LOL)
jonmandudeParticipantTonight is the night. Johnny Rocker, 200+ cars (I hope), perfect weather, and us. I have had nothing but good feedback so far.
