There’s a time and a place – That time and place is not on a city street in the middle of the afternoon.
Racing should be done at a track, no exceptions. This coming from a guy who spent the many of late nights in the middle of nowhere showing off. That’s not to say I have (or have not) been involved in a vehicle acceleration contest since my 35th birthday

moparkid25ParticipantZac’s Automotion Experience:
I drove up on Friday afternoon. Coming into the Lake Delton on Hwy 12, the State Patrol had a trap set up and were using air patrol to radar traffic. Right away that told me there was zero tolerance for horsing around on the street.
As I turned onto WI Dells Pkwy, I’m cruising down to my motel and am met my some little swag punk in a white VW Golf who gives me and my car a thumbs down. I can only laugh, because not only do I know I’m faster, but this cocky little hipster has no idea what he could get himself into had I not be much more calm and laid back than that of years past.
Once checked in and settled, Vipermuscle and I grabbed our chairs and headed to the front lawn to watch the cars cruise into town. They are very hard to see in between all of the Brodozers (a term I learned this weekend, describing lifted trucks full of dudes). The ricers were in full force, bouncing there rev’s off the limiters, driving like pissed off teenagers, blasting shitty music, and being a nuisance like the rest of the hillbillies. I did notice the ricers that didn’t drive like idiots had nice cars… That is the difference when you have worked hard to have something nice. You take care of it and respect it. Friday night we went to dinner, in my car, and were met with spectators asking me to “spool up” or “burnout.” I did neither, knowing the consequences. Plus, if I’m going to show off, its going to be for chicks and little kids, not drunk a-holes.
Saturday, we were up bright and early, and in line to get into the show at 6:50am. Had to wait for them to open the gates, but they had four lanes getting in and it wasn’t the worst wait I’ve ever had. Got in, got parked, musked up on sunscreen, and enjoyed the day! When leaving the show on Saturday, traffic was very congested, but only took us about 20-25 minutes to get around the block and down to our motel. Saturday saw the same story as Friday, only when going to dinner we were in Dwightamite’s car. Idiots galore!
Of course, Sunday morning was a breeze as there was little to no traffic getting into the show and leaving town. In the morning hours, all the party animals were still sleeping it off. We didn’t stick around for awards, and I got home about 3:30pm.
It wasn’t too long ago I was a young man in my mid-20s attending this show with my car. I partied and took part in a lot of motel room debauchery. I wasn’t driving if I had been drinking. I wasn’t being a disturbance to other guests at the motel. I cleaned up after myself, and that room looked like it did when I checked in. It’s funny how time changes you, because now I’m a young man in my mid-30s and I have a different outlook of the events at this weekend. With social media being what it is nowdays, it certainly hasn’t helped promote this weekend for the better. I’m all for cruising, all for having a good time, but I am not for promoting underage drinking and drug use in public. It’s almost as if these millenials are challenging the police, saying “I dare you to bust me.”
I had a good time at the show, but just like last year I had to ask myself, “Do I really want to piss around with all of this next year?” Here I am again asking myself the same question. I’m fortunate that our motel only lets guests who have previously stayed there rent rooms for car show weekend. I’m also not one for more police, but frankly I think it would help on this weekend. Lake Delton, or the business owners there, do not deserve to have their properties ruined/trashed. I read the article Ryan posted, and I was happy to see that the city and its law enforcement officials are on the side of Automotion. Frankly, the other shows that take place at Mt. Olympus, Wintergreen, and such should be held on another weekend. If they were, I feel a lot less problems would come about. It sounds like the D-bag that owns Mt. Olympus thinks he owns the Dells, and I’m sure if the city asked him to hold his event on a different weekend, he would fight them.
moparkid25ParticipantAnother case of $100k will buy you a car, but won’t buy you common sense.
Saturday evening a woman and her child were struck by a car, who after hitting them attempted to flee the scene (in that traffic?). That car was then run off the road by a guy in his “BroDozer” (A big lifted diesel truck) into a phone pole where his airbags deployed.
The Edge of the Dells incident was at least contained, and no one appeared injured. I can’t confirm that the woman and child who were struck were in a crosswalk, but nonetheless that is going to leave a mark with city officials who are now probably looking at how to they will address next years events… If there is events anymore.

moparkid25ParticipantAutomotion for me, first show of the spring/summer. Didn’t get any “pre-season” shows in this year
I got my Buick all cleaned up and ready to rock. Just finishing up a couple things on it this week so Friday I’m ready to go.
Hopefully the millenials don’t make the weekend a clusterf*** like they did last year. I’m going no filter this year 👿

moparkid25Participantjonmandude wrote:While I understand the sentiments expressed here, I often think that maybe the “exclusive” attitude of this show has created the problems. By restricting the show to “older vehicles”, the message is that the newer cars are somehow “not good enough”. The newer car owners have now expressed a desire to be included the only way they can, by creating their own. If the wish is to be an event for car enthusiasts, then it should include ALL car enthusiasts. Even the Good Guys have realized this and now include “newer” muscle cars. Good Guys was originally created as a group for street rods. It realized that the hobby is more than that and grew to include the muscle cars of the 60’s and 70’s. Now, within the past couple of years, it has realized that for the hobby to grow it must expand to also include the newer cars as well.My view is that, in order to show the enthusiasts of the future how great this hobby can be, they must be included to witness, first hand, how to interact with others in a positive manner….and even some of the “old guard” can open their eyes to some new ideas and views.
We have all developed friendships, and even (in a way) families, because of our love for the art form of the automobile. Why exclude the youth because their passion takes a different form? We were all kids once. We all remember just wanting to be included. And when we were “kept out” we often felt unwanted and angry. You can’t expect them to learn how to interact if you don’t allow them to.
I see your point, and understand where the youth of today is coming from. I have no issue with them having a show that only supports newer vehicles, but I don’t understand the need to have it on the same day as an established show.
With that said, Automotion has, since I can remember, had a cutoff of the 1989 model year. Its no secret that if the cutoff were removed, vehicles would be turned away as there is only so much room in one parking lot. Could the event be held elsewhere? Probably. But why? It’s been at Noah’s Ark since I started attending with that red Charger I owned so long ago. Frankly, the last couple years the weather has been nice enough that cars were turned away due to unavailable room.
In the future, it may have worked out that these events could’ve been held together, but IMO that bridge was burned last year with the Millenial Entitlement Club having shows on the same day.
moparkid25ParticipantAmigo2k wrote:DODGE CHALLENGER 1970 – $16500 (Mt. Horeb)I have never, ever seen this car in town. If I did, I would probably be holding back vipermuscle from flipping out over the ’71 R/T stripes on a ’70
The price is real right though… jonmandude, you sure don’t want another hot rod??
moparkid25ParticipantThat T/A is a steal of a deal, I suspect that car won’t last long
moparkid25ParticipantI did start mine yesterday, just to make sure the gauges were working properly
moparkid25ParticipantFrom the word I heard, the SRC will not be hosting a show in Verona this year, but hope to resurrect the show for 2017.
