See You Down The Road

After many years serving the classic car community, Wisconsin Collector Car will be shutting down at the end of 2024. Thank you for all of the car show memories!

I don’t think you will see that many dealers disappear. Some yes, like saturn and hummer, but those dealers never did anything to sponsor a lot around the area anyway.

I wouldn’t be suprised if the GTO Club that sponsors the all makes Don Miller show goes bye-bye, after the judging that took place the last few years….I didn’t attend this year so I dont know how it turned out, but I would hope that BOS didn’t go to a late-model Corvette again. The MOPAR show has been hurting over there for years too, I think they get maybe 25 cars a year? I can’t forsee that one lasting forever either. It always seems there a lot of bias judging at Dealership-sponsored car shows.

Nice to see that when OPEC announced they were cutting production 2+ million barrels a day the price has gone down. Ended around $36 a barrel today. People need to keep reducing the number of miles they drive. And the car companies need to produce much more fuel efficient vehicles and we will have OPEC right where we want them. It will be nice to be able to tell them what they can do with their some day.

Hell yes, It’s about time this country gets back on track!

I see fuel went up a dime to $1.75/gal, but I’m still not complaining.

I tell you what, I got stuck on the beltline tuesday night in rush hour, took me over a hlaf hour to go from Verona Rd to Fish Hatch. I could’ve walked that distance faster in a blizzard that what I was driving it. Madison’s eco-friendly Mayor Dave should seriously consider having his head removed from his extremities, every time I come to Madison I’m more and more glad I don’t live there!!! The plows were not out, so no roads were clean at all and there was no salt anywhere. The lakes will still be there, quit worrying about the salt hurting the water because I can guarantee you there’s a lot worse crap sitting at the bottom…..and I don’t think Otis Redding is going to complain about it now either :silly:

Out here where I live, my road is the last to get plowed but it does get plowed, so I really can’t complain. If I were a resident of Madison I’d be at every city council meeting throwing my shoes at the mayor!!!

The storage fees are more in line now with this area. The consignment fees are very reasonable. If I was looking to sell a car I would definitely consider them. Nice showroom with plenty of exposure on the internet.

I would too. These guys are all over the internet with there advertising!! And the way they move inventory, I don’t think it would be there long either.

Took me 30 minutes to drive the 10 minute drive to work. Hwy Y in western Dane County to Mazo. Last county road plowed it seems. Very drifty and I was pushing snow with the Trail Blazer.

Ghost town at the shop today, tons of no shows and the parts guys haven’t been around on time or at all in some cases.

Oh well, clean the shop, maybe move the Edsel over to start some winter work on it.

Yeah we haven’t got any parts deliveries today either. We’re also not delivering any parts today because of the weather…but our drivers are all 70+ years old 😆

Where I live South of Blue Mounds it took me almost a 1/2 hour to get to work. Then while I was on 18-151 a car behind thought they could drive on the snow pack and ended up down in the ditch and rolling over. We also have had a lot of cancellations today.

Maybe I’ll sneak out early and head home….

I too have to agree that small business is the way to go. Like lilwille, I worked for a large dealership in Madison when I was in high school. Nobobdy knew who you were unless they read your name off your shirt. Too many chiefs and not enough indians. I’ve been with my present employer for 10 years now and he is a great boss. I really can’t imagine taking orders from anyone other than him. We have approx. 25 people that work here.

I also like running my shop at home. I’m the owner, supervisor, employee, and customer relations specialist :P

I have to agree, The Dark Knight was the best movie I have seen in a long time! I’m also biased because I have always admired Batman – from being a young kid with a Super Powers lunchbox, to collecting many Batman comics, seeing the first Micheal Keaton Batman movie in the theatre when I was 8 (I still remember going!), to the last two movies which I felt were the most accurate to the comic and the best two produced.

I also liked Iron Man, another one that stuck mostly to the original story line.

I like alot of older stuff. Movies I would also recommend would be:

    American Graffiti

    Dazed and Confused

    Grandma’s Boy

    Knocked Up

    F&F: Tokyo Drift

    Hollywood Knights

    Smokey and the Bandit

    Starsky & Hutch

    Dark Blue

    The American Pie trilogy

It also never hurts to pick up a season of your favorite tv shows on DVD either. I have the complete Dukes of Hazzard series on DVD, All the Knight Rider seasons, and seasons 1-3 of Starsky and Hutch. There always good to fall back on when your looking for some good tv. I also just ordered the first 5 seasons of CSI: Miami to keep me content this winter!

Yet only just now, we are officially in a recession.

Are you saying that Obama is to blame for the recession or that the “recession” is being hyped because it is only now mentioned?

According to media news reports (and most of you know I only watch Fox News) we have been in a recession for the past year. I can believe that, many jobs have been lost, foreclosures are at an all-time high, credit is tight thanks to those who didn’t pay up there mastercards and visa’s. I think we are hearing more about it because we are about to inagurate a new president. If he can do what he says, the country can turn around. The country will turn around either way but it may take more time if Obama doesn’t keep his word, which I am afraid will probably happen. Not because he’s a democrat, but because he’s a politican.

I agree, and I am not against alternative energy and more efficient vehicles either, but it seems the liberal left do not want to budge unless the automakers start immediately with alternative vehicles. R&D needs to go into these, and in the mean time we are going to have stuff that runs on gasoline. The invention and use of E85 was a big step in the right direction, but it isn’t much cheaper to manufature that fuel.

Driving to Washington in a hybrid vehicle isn’t going to get you anywhere either, espeically since the corrupt media slammed the automakers for flying in there private jets. How about we slam some of these politicians who fly to DC in there private jets that burn fuel?

I should clarify this post as being somewhat biased being employd in the automotive industry. All 3 companies have really painted themselves in a corner and should have done something a long time ago instead of building on the SUV craze and making money had over fist. Now many people stand to lose jobs and will have to do something else for an income or go back to college and get a degree in something where you can’t get a job.

Yeah, Tumbleweeds parking lot was never really full from what I can remember of all the summer nights I spent cruising by there.

I wonder what the new Sonic is going to do to QSL’s business? Sonic is a drive-in and they have plenty of potential for a good car scene, but I know I don’t eat in any of my vehicles. QSL is more car-themed, but if they keep up and get better turnouts than last summer they are going to run out of room. I personally am not a fan of the food at QSL, but I do like the atmosphere.
