I wonder what there criteria will be for choosing which customers lose coverage? 600k is A LOT of people… I would bet anyone who uses tobacco or has serious medical issues will be the first ones cut.

On a side note, I can’t say I’m suprised the Huffington Post and the AC were the first to report this. Left Wing media is now doing there part to help Obama push socailized health care or what?

Dumb. If they don’t allow the hotel to be re-vamped, I don’t want to see or hear Mayor Dave/Jim Doyle crying about no jobs available in the state

Garibaldi, Thanks for the hard work on this proposed standard.

As a general guideline, I am in favor of and in agreement with this proposal. This standard is specific enough to be applicable to all or most cars and trucks, yet general enough for a judge to factor in the age of the vehicle, whether the vehicle is trailered or driven, attention to small details in the restoration.

I strongly support the participant voting guideline of not voting in one’s own class, and then voting in a designated number of other classes determined by the show’s organizers. We have seen this system work very well at Spring Green, the Janesville Jesus Show and others.

+1. Im with Marshall on this, I have judged at shows were you didn’t have enough catagories to decisevly (sp?) and fairly judge the vehicles, or you had too many factors which you spent too much time with a vehicle and ran out of time.

Mecum always has some nice cars for sale, and not only that they have realistic sellers. Not everyone is in it to get rich :)

This just in from the State Capitol: “Rep. Zigmunt has turned over the keys on this issue to the DOT and they have definitely slipped some, almost all, of Trans123 into the bill.”

    Here’s the thread about Trans123:

So far, they have received lots of support for this bill. ???

I sure hope that in 2 years or so, if all of our vehicles are off the road, I’m not left sitting here saying, “I told you so.”.

Please come and demand that this bill gets amended or rejected.

I called Sondy Robert’s office yesterday. I got a live person who I voiced my concerns too regarding this matter. Today, I got an email from Tom McCarthy, a somebody in Roberts office. He still had my email address from last july when I lit em up about Trans 123. He asked for my phone number, and I gave it to him. It wasn’t 5 minutes and my cell was ringing. I have to say, I was quite impressed. I spoke with him for a short time and reiterated my concerns. He told me that Ms. Roberts is well aware of the situation going on with the DOT, and that she along with Senator Erpenbach are against what the DOT is trying to pass. I explained to him that the DOT has no right to go over the laws put inplace by the federal government. By regulating what can and cant be driven on the highways (even if the vehicle meets all the proper safety equipment) is no only insane, but the revenue lost by those in the fabrication, restoration, and other areas of the automotive industry will be astronomical. Tom sounded like he had his head on his shoulders, and admitted that the bill is way too vague. He also agreed with me that a vehicle should not be subject to registration based on what some goon at DOT thinks.

I am home sick, and won’t be able to attend tomorrows hearing. I ask that everyone who can make it stand alongside Mr. Underwood and fight for our rights as vehicle owners!!!

    Thanks for the info, neighbor!!

I don’t think I will be able to attend as work is in the way and its too short of notice for me to get off.

Please go and defend the rights of the residents of WI on my behalf. I will be contacting my Senators, congressmen, and anyone else that will listen to me. This is an outrage to the collector vehicle community, and makes me sick to my stomach that the state wants to decide what is “safe” for us.

I will stop by Thursday after work to find out the outcome of the meeting!

The Dodge Charger Registry went thru this when the new 4door car came out. They refused to include the new models because they were a sedan. My feelings were that the new charger had more muscle car feel and appearance than the 76-77 Charger, which was nothing more than an uglier Cordoba. And, if performance was an issue, the new charger would out perform the old models.

I am a die-hard 2 gen Charger guy (68-70), but I wouldn’t turn away someone who shares the same interest as me.

My dad got a doe. However, it was late in the day and while tracking the blood trail it became too dark to see. The next morning him and his buddy went out and found it on our neighbor’s property dead. According to my old man, it “stunk like a Saigon hooker on Sunday” while field dressing it. He took it to the CWD site where they chucked it in a dumpster headed for the incinerator – the meat was no good. He got his buck tag, and has been out almost everyday this week.

I like Leiberman. Though he started a democrat, when he objected to party ideals the democrat party chose not to endorse him when he was up for re-election, he ran as an independent…and won!

I don’t neccesarily agree with bi-partisan politics though sometimes its needed to move further. McCain has been heckeled for this… If Leiberman ran for president as an independent, I would consider voting for him.

If you traded in a clunker worth $3500, you get $4500 off for an apparent “savings” of $1000. However, you have to pay taxes on the $4500 come April 15th (something that no auto dealer will tell you). If you are in the 30% tax bracket, you will pay $1350 on that $4500.

So, rather than save $1000, you actually pay an extra $350 to the feds. In addition, you traded in a car that was most likely paid for. Now, you have 4 or 5 years of payments on a car that you did not need, that was costing you less to run than the payments that you will now be making.

But wait, it gets even better: you also got a Democratic Deal from the dealer.

For example, every dealer here in L.A. was selling the Ford Focus with all the goodies including A/C, auto transmission, power windows, etc for $12,500 the month before the “cash for clunkers” program started. When “cash for clunkers” came along, they stopped discounting them, and instead sold them at the list price of $15,500. So, you paid $3000 more than you would have the month before. (Honda, Toyota , and Kia played the same list price game that Ford and Chevy did).

So, lets do the final tally here

You traded in a car worth: $3500

You got a discount of: $4500

    Net so far +$1000

But, you have to pay: $1350 in taxes on the $4500

    Net so far: -$350

And you paid: $3000 more than the car was selling for the month before

    Net -$3350

We could also add in the additional taxes (sales tax, state tax, etc.) on the extra $3000 that you paid for the car, along with the 5 years of interest on the car loan, but, lets just stop here.

So, who actually made out on the deal? The Feds collected taxes on the car along with taxes on the $4500 they “gave” you. The car dealers made an extra $3000 or more on every car they sold along with the kickbacks from the manufacturers and the loan companies. The manufacturers got to dump lots of cars they could not give away the month before. And, the poor stupid consumer got saddled with even more debt that they cannot afford. Now there will be defaults on these “Obama Good Deal Cars” like there were on the forced Obama Home Loans when he was a Chicago “Community Organizer” that gave loans to people who could not even qualify for a Sears Credit Card…

Obama and his band of merry men convinced Joe consumer that he was getting $4500 in “free” money from the “government” when in fact Joe was giving away his $3500 car and paying an additional $3350 for the privilege. Oh my America, what did you do???

This is THE END of another sad tale of how Obama and his cronies are fooling the gullible people of America.

    Well put, sir. :)

My experience has been that you get what you pay for. Quite frankly, nowadays, you don’t get much car for 15K. If you’re just looking for a weekend cruiser or a cruise night car, then you can do pretty good for 15K.

I would disagree with you to an extent. I think if you shop long and hard, and have the means to travel, you can find some pretty sweet cars that would be show contenders IMO. Depending on what your looking for, of course. You wouldn’t find a pristine ’69 Charger for that kinda $$$, but a damn nice GM A body car on the other hand…

Originality and year correct factory stock restoration is important to me, so consequently, cars of this nature are much more expensive. I have’t seen too many cars lately that were original or have been restored to factory original specs, that were selling for this kind of money. That ’62 Impala convertible in need of a full restoration had an asking price of 25K! When finished, this car would have been worth 45K easy!

I also agree with you on restorations. I prefer a stock resto, but with a few goodies under the stock appearing valve covers and intake manifold 👿

    Update:

I was talking with an aquaintance of mine today that knows Jim Caudle. I made mention of recent events and asked what he thought. He did confirm that Jim is sick, but getting the help he needs and is doing everything he can to earn a speedy recovery. This was good to hear!

I wont get into other details, mainly because they are not my business nor anyone elses.

I find it amusing that when things or life changing experiences don’t go Lance’s way, he would have the audacity to act so childish by claiming someone’s illness is a hoax. A person’s life is no joke. Just goes to show the character of Lance Peterson. I’ve said he was a scumbag before… If you want to read his posts, here is a link to his Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=661910472&ref=nf#/profile.php?id=1461227013&v=wall

With an attitude like this, I can’t imagine why he went out of business…. 3 times.
