As long as the stories are as good as the original Cussler books, I’ll keep reading and rereading them. Waiting to see how things change now that Dirk Sr. has married, taken over the Admiral’s top spot, and the stories turn to his children.

Yep same here, I’ll keep reading. Hopefully they will keep Cussler’s same (or similar) writing style, as opposed to his co-written books (meaning Clive probably didn’t really write it) like the Kurt Austin adventures.

I was some what undecided on this new version since I watched the original series, but the last episode got me. Looking forward to the next episode to see where it goes. Lots of plot twists possible with that ending.

I know, the last episode was so good! The last 3 minutes were really unbelieveable!!
Here’s a topic specifically about that episode:

I must be a gear head because I have no idea what Red Hat Package Manager is, but I have a gauge to measure Rotations Per Minute.

Drogar-Laugh(LBG).gif Yep not many people do. FYI Red Hat Package Mananger is a way to install software on Red Hat Linux based systems. There are also Debian packages for Debian-based systems, and source code.

Guess it’s just you and me. icon_sad.gif I recommend his books to everyone here. He usually works an old car into the story somewhere. If you see the movie Sahara and enjoy it, read the book it was based on. I’ll have to wait another week before I will have time to see it.

Great to have another Clive Cussler fan here! I think I’m going to see Sahara today. His work is just so well done and the plots are always so detailed. What do you think about his son starting to write the novels?

Spring Jefferson for me, too. I’ll be there on Saturday if the weather is good. I’ll be busy on Sunday so my show cars will be the ones for sale. icon_wink.gif Anyone else planning on Saturday?

P S Leave the Kaiser parts for me. thumbsup.gif

Yep saturday for me too, it just works out the best. I should make a big Wisconsin Collector Car sign and stick it on my back or something so you’ll recognize me. Drogar-Laugh(LBG).gif

In Wisconsin they are very popular. When the weather finally gets decent there are usually a number of choices each weekend. Currently we have had some beautiful weather, but the last couple of years May and early June have sucked weather-wise.

Yep, living in Wisconsin is great! We usually have several car shows each weekend, so you always have a variety to choose from.

    Hi Gar
I think weekends seem to be tough , don’t you ? Mondays….on seem good .
Maybe if we are all online we could round everyone up and run the numbers up .

    Drogar-Dum(LBG).gif

Yep, statistically weekends are bad for forums (even though I’m still on alot :D ). Let me take a look at my stats page and see when the best day has been.

It looks like we are all on the same page. I can truely appreicate the time, money and effort that is required to make a replica look as authentic as possible and if the builder or owner admits that it is a replica we admire that craftsmanship required to make it happen.

To pass off a replica as the original and advertise it as such is really a disservice to the car community and takes away from the admirable hard work and dedication of the builder.

Yep, besides the dishonesty of passing it off as original, like you said the guy who created the replica isn’t getting any credit for all his hard work. Its really in his benefit to say that its a replica so he can get that appreciation and exposure.

    Hi Mike
Your right it is a touchy subject to tread . My self I dont mind them eather.
In my thoughts when one builds a replica I always think of a fiberglass bodied car . One that is most impossible to pass off as an original only becoause most were steel or aluminum. Now clones are another story ,
it’s one thing to build a clone to suite your self and make it pleasing to what you would like to see . But to pass it off and try to sell it as an original you might as walk in and steal some ones bank book. With any of them they are a work of art and loads of knuckle busting hours and I can appretiate them just for that alone. Great post Mike Im sure it will raise alot of oppinions.

Yep I agree. I don’t have a problem with them if they are clearly displayed as what they are, a replica. Its also neat to see how close someone can come to recreating it. But they overstep the line when they try to pass it off as an original, there is a difference and it must be displayed.

This is when you truly know you are a gearhead and proud to say so.

A couple of months ago at work our HR director found a bag of marijuana on the shop floor and there was a meeting amongst the shop guys to address the situation. Later in the day one of the guys joked with me and asked if the drugs were mine. This was my response,

“First off I don’t know what the stuff looks like and second, if I had the money to buy the stuff I wouldn’t. I would use the money to buy aftermarket car parts!”

That my friends, is true acknowledgement and a badge to wear to the world that you are a gearhead. Drogar-BigGrin(LBG).gif

Smart man, you have the right idea.

I know I am a gearhead when I spend all morning at work thinking up excuses to take off early, go home and take one of the cars out for a drive. And I have done that quite a few times. There can be nothing more relaxing than taking a drive on a nice afternoon.

And I know I’m a gearhead when all day all I can think about is wiscollectorcar.com and getting on the forum. wave.gif

That is interesting. Like you say China and India have alot of power in the world economy. You know their need for oil will be increasing, not decreasing. And they own alot of the US debt also. We have very little leverage as far as the price of oil and just about anything else. In what I have ordered lately the shipping costs have gone up alot. I ordered a fan blade for my GTO, the blade was $63 and it was &15 to ship it.

In my line of work, computer consulting our salaries have been undercut by outsourcing and the H1b’s over here. Haven’t had a raise for 4 years and don’t expect one this year.

I didn’t realize scrap was bringing so much, might be worth looking around for some easy pickings.

Yeah it really is a changing world, and like you said China isn’t going to just go away, they are going to really change world economics. What we must do now is wake up to the fact that we need to find alternative energy and start working towards that end.

Its terrible to hear that about your work, hopefully things will pick up!
