See You Down The Road

After many years serving the classic car community, Wisconsin Collector Car will be shutting down at the end of 2024. Thank you for all of the car show memories!

When I still had my 83 Marquis wagon, some biker guy was leaning against it with chains dangling on the paint. I tell him to not lean and he says “Why it’s nothing special”. I says it’s mine and I want to keep it nice. I hate car shows that bring in bands that have a rude outside fan base that comes and seems to think the old collector cars and rods are there for their comfort or writing surface or a place to set their tired whiny three year old (seen that happen) or a bar top for their drinks. I swear, I will be driven to violence. I saw a mother use an Edsel wagon tailgate as a diaper changing station. Aaarrrgggh!

I never thought of the Alliance Center’s pricing policies. You are right in that regard as they have their own vendors I think.

Good Guys! As always, a great national event that we can enjoy here in our little corner of the world, well, besides NSRA of course. As to the prices for food and the entry fee, Good Guys is not a car club, it is a business, and as such, the prices are going to be closer to what you would find at a big sporting event. It costs major money to advertise and hire personnel, DJs, bands, advertise for vendors to come (vendor fee is upwards of $300.) I am surprised the Ice Cream Bar guy kept his prices reasonable, knowing what he had to pay to get the vendor spot. We are so used to having little car shows and clubs putting on events almost every weekend during the warm months, that we get a bit spoiled. Hope you all enjoyed Good guys and had a wonderful time. Some of the national cars and major vendors they get are great to get a chance to see. I had inquired of their vendor fee situation when they were still at Waukesha and I passed. I would have been in the negative. I’ll stick with my little shows with no fees.

WOW, there must be two of those Buick straight eight rods around. I saw one today, same green body but with a red engine and some graphics on the side of the cowl. It was at Sussex Lions car show….a very nice show, I might add.

Is this Gus related to the Gus’s in East Troy?

Very nice cars. I saw that straight eight Buick powered rod at Waukesha last weekend.

Perhaps a modern Ecotech engine with it’s attendant computer controls would do the trick. Plenty zippy, great mileage and very clean burning.

I have to disagree on that one, Garibaldi. From the shows I’ve been to, attendance is the same or even better. The exception being Soerens Ford. It was down a bit. We will see as I will attend Elkhorn this weekend and shall see how many vehicles show. The weather will be hot and humid, so that will be a factor.

    lordairguitar,

Did you, by chance, see that beautiful, dark blue 1931 Cord that came into the show right around noon? I had never seen a Cord before, and I love the styling and design on these cars.

I did say “hello” to Capt Bob from Hotrod Radio!

Nutz! I missed that car. I guess I was too busy drawing. Wished I would have seen that. Like Garibaldi sez…anyone get a pic?

Arrival/Departure (easy to find, easy to leave?)
Easy to get to whether you go in on 33 or the county roads. I drove from Muskego.
    Parking Location
I parked on a side street and parking is abundant. The church on the street I parked on let show goers park there.
    Class Organization
    Lots of classes
    Trophies & Prizes
    Huge trophies
    Food
    Tasty stuff, grilled fare
    Entertainment
Disc Jockey, pretty good if I say so myself (I DJ car shows)
    Judging
Judging is done very well and they will look over cars several times if the running is close.
    Dash Plaque
    Wasn’t showing so I don’t know
    Variety of Cars
Great selection of cars and a small car corral
    Bathrooms
    Lots
    Weather
    A very warm day…beautiful
    Trophy Presentation Timing
    Lengthy
    Entry Fee
    ?
Overall Rating:A solid A, a must attend show.

I went as an artist to draw cars and had a great day doing it. Capt. Bob was there from Wisconsin Hotrod Radio as well as the guy selling the cool board game American Muscle Car Challenge. There were vendors selling crafts and car parts, plus a guy selling AMT model kits at $4.00 each.

I’m going to Elkhorn. Haven’t been there for a while and I am looking forward to it. It’s Trucks and Wagons as feature vehicles and I’ll be driving the HHR Panel.

To the car show promoters…Do not get upset with the forum members here, they are offering their opinions on the extra charge and the cruising to the track part. Although they are a bit “spirited” about it, they offer good advice. Springing these extra charges a bit before the show is just asking for hurt feelings and surly attitudes, what with the cost of gas, food and souvenirs they may want to spend their money on. To the car show participant, it does look like another group is just trying to ride the financial backs of the car owners. You will never foster goodwill like this no matter how noble the cause. That $5 bucks will be one less brat or hot dog or whatever from a vendor there.

I don’t think carguy is talking about the shows on weekends but the cruise nights. Those are usually non-competitive events where we gather and talk with friends. I see some of the things that carguy mentions. Those clicques he mentions are not clubs that want to be together but a small number of friends that will hold a spot until their late buddy finally drives in at 8:30 PM while another car had to park on the street. Snobby people are going to be found everywhere. I just deal with them like always…I ignore them. I do not get jealous of those with expensive exotic cars or someone who can afford to have Troy Trepanier or Chip Foose build their car. I love those cars, even though I might only be able to afford a rusty 83 Mercury Marquis wagon (RIP). I really don’t think the car itself knows what kind of car it is whether it’s made by Nissan or Ford or Chevy or a rod built of parts Henry never made. BTW, I remember A&W on 27th street. I started drawing cars there years back in the eighties.

The local cruise nights and the shows close to the Milwaukee area are doing well. Holz Chevy again had many more cars than they had room for. I think for long distance shows like Iola and Back To The Fifties, those are doing well too. It will be interesting to see what Labor Day weekend holds for us in Fond Du Lac with the WSRA Corn Roast. On top of high fuel prices, it is also coincides with the Harley thing in Milwaukee, so even the cheap motels are charging up to and over $100.00 per night to cash in on the bike crowd (thanx Harley). Anything within a hunnert miles of beer town is going to be booked up and expensive. A 53 buck room is 100 bucks at the super 8. Well, we just make more of an effort to prepare and save for our hobby travels. Big shows will always do well. I think vendors are going to be hurting more.
