I like that new commercial where the guy is sitting on his front porch out in the country. He can hear a sound in the distance, it gets closer and closer until a ’70 Chevelle with flowmasters drives by. Now that is my kind of commercial.
GTO ManModeratorQuote:Quote:I’ll throw out the names of some movies where cars are important to the storyline.Two-Lane Blacktop – ’55 Chevy vs 70 GTO Judge – Commentary on society during that time.
Vanishing Point – ’70 Dodge Challenger
Bullitt – Charger vs Mustang
Gone in 60 Seconds –
You beat me to it, I was going to say Bullitt too..
There were also some cool racing movies:
Grand Prix – James Garner – Garner raced and also owned a race team until costs got too high.
LeMans – Steve McQueen
Winning – Paul Newman
GTO ManModeratorThat is a nice looking Valiant. It must of been pretty fast with a V-8. They were a pretty light car. You don’t see many at car shows.
GTO ManModeratorQuote:I’m one of those people who miss the cars of yesterday. The styles today have lost their uniqueness. I remember when you would see a car coming down the road and you would know what year and make it was. I miss that. I wondered what everybody here thought about it.Like you said you used to be able to tell what kind of car it was from a distance. A small part of the fender or grill would identify the car. These days the only way to tell on most cars is to read the nameplate. The only truly distinctive cars are usually out of sight price-wise. Chrysler has probably taken more chances lately with different designs. I like the Magnum, 300, and am waiting to see just what the Charger will look like.
GTO ManModeratorThere is something about the ’63 thru ’67 Vette’s. Especially with the Stinger hood. They are just about the only American car that remained true to it’s heritage. The ’55 thru ’57 Thunderbirds were pretty much in the same category but then sold out to dreams of larger profits.
GTO ManModeratorQuote:Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this forum to take off the ground more?? No one’s posted. Drogar-Cry(LBG).gifI think it should be kept. As more people visit the site there should be more interest. If after a certain amount of time there isn’t enough interest I would discontinue it.
GTO ManModeratorQuote:It’s been years since I wrote this artical and it is related to Motorcyle engines, but it may be of interest to car nuts also. Especially if they run double overhead cams:
http://www.racer-x.dragbikecentral.com/custom.htmlThat is a site I made about 5 years ago. I’m suprised it’s still up.
Nice looking bikes on the site. I like that ’67 Nova SS. Sounds like you do your own mechanical and performance work. I wish I had the knowledge to do that.
GTO ManModeratorI thought that Mustang was real in that picture. It’s amazing the amount of detail the diecast models have.
I have a number of diecast models, mainly muscle cars. In the last couple of years they have really added many different types of models from the 20’s and 30’s up until today. Quite a variety of prices also, from the $20 range up to 100’s.
GTO ManModeratorQuote:I love the classic styling and grunt of the GTO both then and now. We have a local performance shop called Motorsport Technologies (http://www.motorsporttech.com/). They specialize in LS1, LS2, LS6, and ZL1 equipped rides and one package that caught my eye was one in which they take the stock GTO, perform a bore/stroke job, new heads and cam, intake and exhaust and tuning enhancement. At the end of the day they will produce a GTO that will make 645 horsepower. You should see their Z07 package for the Corvette. 😈I also have a local outfit that sells classic cars and muscle from all eras. Have a look:

Nice looking ’69 GTO on the site. It’s amazing the power they get out of these engines. That new GTO with 645 hp would be unbelievable. I hope they give the new GTO a chance to catch on better than it has so far. It seems because of the drive for profits these car companies won’t give some of these cars a chance to succeed.
One of our friends up here had two LS6 Chevelles which he recently sold within the last year. They were original with approximately 10k on them. He said he really didn’t feel comfortable driving them because of their worth.
GTO ManModeratorNice looking Charger. They were always a tough looking car. Certainly in the top five muscle cars.
The Charger Daytona and the Plymouth Superbird were interesting vehicles. They were made to compete on the super-speedways. But they actually were too fast, speeds were pushing past 200 mph and Nascar decided to slow it down, so they banned the wings. Daytona’s and Superbirds didn’t sell well when they came out, probably too radical for the buying public. If they only knew then what we know now.
GTO ManModeratorQuote:I have installed Coppermine Photo Gallery, which allows users to view and upload pictures.
It can be found here:

I’m slowing putting all the car shows up there. I’m still working out all the bugs but once I get it all properly configured any user will be able to post their pictures on it.
Reactions?Coppermine looks great, nice way to display the pictures.
GTO ManModeratorI think the new GTO has the drivetrain to live up to the original’s heritage. Styling-wise I think they did a poor job, but the aftermarket industry will come up with many products. I have a ’68 GTO convertible. They were a tough looking car with the power to back it up. The new one can certainly back it up also.
GTO ManModeratorI saw the Charger in Fast and the Furious a couple weeks ago at the Volo Auto museum north of Chicago. All the cars there are for sale also. A big variety of cars for sale.
GTO ManModeratorOne of the coolest episodes on The Twilight Zone was with William Shatner as a passenger on an airplane. He keeps seeing this creature out the window on the wing. It finally drives him insane.
GTO ManModeratorVery nicely done. All the modifications fit perfectly with the car. What do you think of the new Mustang? I think they did a great job of incorporating the retro look. Looks like Steve Mcqueen could pull up in it it at any time.
